Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

So, it appears my printer has "locked out" the factory reset.  The control panel has the words "sign in" on the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen and when touched, it asks for a pin.  I have never set it up and have no clue what it could be.  It looks like it is a number pin.  I am the only person in my office that administers the printer, the only one that has any technical knowledge at all in my office for that matter.  I was able to reset the printer to factory default through the web interface, but it did not clear the sign in area.  I have been through the manual, pretty useless, and I have searched the web and can't find how to clear it for this printer.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

KJ

I have the same problem. Also my printer won't let me use the "Scan to Email" feature as long as I am not "signed in".
Does anybody have an idea on how to solve this?

I chatted with HP Support today because of an other Issue and also asked them about this problem.

The guy told me, that the "Sign In" option on the home screen is always there. It belongs to a feature where you can protect the printer with a PIN code.

But it's there even if you have never set a PIN code. In that case it doesn't do anything and obviously, there is no way to enter a correct PIN.

Only the newest firmware contains this feature. I guess that's why we can't find anything about it in the manual.

Did you find a solution for this?

I need the scan to email function to work.

I have x476dw and I have the same problem!
Last automatic firmare update add "Sign in" and cause also other problems such as loss of time setting at shut down.
HP I want back my old firmware! Let's solve the problem that automatic firmware update has caused!
Thanks

It sucks that no one has clearly answered this question as I can see but I had the same thing.. here's the deal.. it was added with some update sometime ago. It is a feature for locking the printer.. if you never set this up then it is not in use. If you are having any problems with connectivity this has nothing to do with it

Hi,

Open the Embedded Web Server by opening your browser and typing http://<printer ip address>

where <printer ip address> is your printers ip address e.g. http://192.168.1.10

Then goto Settings >> Security >> Administrator Settings

Place a tick in the web scan box and click apply.

You will now have access to web scan.

e.g. ziggy, ziggy@home.me, 1234

Click apply

Now goto the printer and sign-in using the pin 1234 and you will login as ziggy.
