Hello,

I recently bought this printer and installed it. Both USB and wireless. Current installation is wireless.

What I succeeded in doing:

- print via email (HP ePrint Service)

- print from browser (chrome)

- print from ipad (both Wifi direct and Airprint)

However, it fails printing office documents, and fails printing the test page that can be launched from Windows > Printers > <printer> > properties. In both cases, the file appears very shortly in the list of tasks scheduled for the printer, then disappears. When trying to print a test page, I get the error message "Failed to print the test page ....". When I run the diagnostic took from Windows, everything is fine.

I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility. It did not detect any thing.

I uninstalled/reinstalled several times, using the latest version of the software found on the hp site (HP_LaserJet_M252_Full_Software_and_Drivers_15309.exe). At this end of the installation, it does print a test page at the end properly.

I desactivated theFirewall and the anti-virus software.

I stopped/cleaned/restarted the spooler.

The behavior is identical to the one described in the following thread (2015), but with no final solution:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/quot-Test-page-failed-to-print-quot-seems-like-a-fau... .

My previous printer (a canon inkjet)had stopped printing a few weeks ago  for a hardware reason, and I did not reinstall any new printer in between.

Any help from someone ?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I eventually could get around this problem.

1) I called the HP support who helped me identify that printing when logged as "admin" on my PC was working fine.

2) doing a bit more research with this new information, I found from the post below that the issue was related to the permission on the %TEMP% directory. I had relocated %TEMP%from the default MS location to another drive.  Giving full control to user on this new location was enough to make it work.

More details and explanations to be found on the following post and replies.

Thanks for the help

I understand that you are unable to print a test page from your printer.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Please uninstall printer drivers from your PC and install just the basic drivers and check if that helps.

Link to install Printer basic drivers.

Let me know if this helps!

Hello Chetan,

thank you for your answer.

Unfortunately, your suggestion did not solve the problem.

What I did was to uninstall all software related to the printer, in particular the drivers, and then reinstall from the package you sent me.  At the end, the status is identical: everything works fine, except printing from windows and windows applications.

Any other help ?

regards,

Laurent

Hi! @lvtelcia, thanks for the reply.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned that the issue still persists.

Can you try to perform a copy function on your printer and check if it copying?

Hope to hear from you soon! 🙂

Hi,

My printer does not a printing option (no scanner), so I cannot perform the recommended action.

As an additional hint: I can print from Acrobat Reader. It fails printing from Windows (test page) and from Windows Word.

Thanks for helping,

laurent

Thanks for your suggestion.  It may have been what I needed as well, but by this time I had:

(1) Installed from a copy of the CD.  Copied to desktop\HP 252 - Laserjet Pro M252DN (Installer CD)).

(2) Installed to printer on different subnet.  I was on 10.1.2 subnet and printer was on 192.168.1 subnet.

I entered the IP address of the printer to during the install.  The test print worked fine.

(3) No other printing worked.  I tried from office, and firefox.

(4) When opening the printer properties and clicking "Test Print" I also received the error described above.

(5) I uninstalled the software using the autorun.exe from the CD.

(6) I find the posting on the %TEMP% directory permissions, so I provided full privs for all users.  The temp directory for me was c:\temp\user1.  The directory did not have full rights for all authenticated users.  So I added that.

(7) I manually installed a network printer and selected find driver using Windows update.

(8) Now the printer works when printing from firefox.

I'm not sure if it was the manual install or the %TEMP% directory permissions that fixed the problem for me and I'm not wasting any more time to figure this out!
