Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

I am experiencing an error message on my printer: the error spy is blinking and the display says "error 80".

I tried switching it off and on multiple times but it didn't work.

I also tried to unplug and waiting 60s, still no luck.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hi @Esderegoth,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

An "Error 80" message on your printer generally indicates a fuser problem. The fuser is a component that heats up to fuse the toner onto the paper, and errors related to it typically mean that the printer is having trouble heating up or detecting the correct temperature.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Turn Off and Unplug the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 10 minutes to allow the fuser to cool down completely.

2. Check the Fuser Unit

  • Inspect the fuser unit for any visible signs of damage or wear. This might include torn or worn rollers or other damaged components.
  • Ensure there is no paper jammed in the fuser area. Remove any debris if present.

3. Re-seat the Fuser Unit

  • If the fuser unit is accessible and user-replaceable, carefully remove it and then re-seat it to ensure it is properly connected.

4. Clean the Fuser Area

  • Use a lint-free cloth to clean any visible dirt or toner buildup in the fuser area. Be gentle to avoid damaging the components.

5. Firmware Update

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website and download any available firmware updates for your model.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source again.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

7. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Use any built-in diagnostic tools provided by the printer. These can often be accessed via the printer’s control panel or software.

8. Check for Overheating

  • Make sure the printer is in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Overheating can sometimes cause fuser errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
