I am trying to connect my MFP 179fnw on my local Wi-Fi, and the password contains an Exclamation mark “!”.

I tried reviews tags on the HP support, including pressing the star “*” button but the “!” does not appear.

could you please help?

Hi @DolceK,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw Printer. wanted to use the Exclamation mark “!”.Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's try resetting the printer and check once

1) Take out the cartridges.

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Wait for 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Follow the below instructions -

1 Select the (Menu) > Network > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Settings button on the control panel. Or, Press the (Wireless), access to the Wi-Fi menu.

2 Press the OK to select the setup method you want.

 • Wizard > Search List (recommended): In this mode, the setup is automatic. The machine will display a list of available networks from which to choose. After a network is chosen then printer will prompt for the corresponding security key.

 • Custom: In this mode, users can give or edit manually their own SSID, or choose the security option in detail.

3 Follow the instructions to set up the wireless network.

Use the below table to enter right characters-
