Is it possible to upgrade my HP Deskjet 2800e from 2.5GHz to 5GHz

Hi Graham5713

The HP Deskjet 2800e cannot be upgraded to support the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, as this is a limitation of the printer's internal hardware.

Here's why and what you should know about its connectivity:

1. Hardware Limitation (2.4 GHz Only) 🚫

The HP Deskjet 2800e series is built with a wireless network adapter that only supports the older Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n standard, which operates exclusively on the 2.4 GHz frequency band.

  • No Physical Upgrade: The ability to use 5 GHz requires a different network card (often called "dual-band") that is built into the printer. This hardware cannot be added or changed through a software, driver, or firmware update.

  • Printer Standard: Most entry-level printers, like the Deskjet series, use the 2.4 GHz band because it offers better range and penetration (it goes through walls better), which is more practical for a device that isn't speed-critical and is often placed far from the router.

2. Connection Stability Tips

If you were trying to upgrade because you have connection issues, the problem is likely with your router's setup.

If you have a modern dual-band router (broadcasting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz):

  1. Separate your Wi-Fi networks: Log into your router's settings and give the two bands separate names (SSIDs), for example: MyHome_2.4GHz and MyHome_5GHz. This prevents your printer from getting confused.

  2. Connect the printer only to the 2.4 GHz network.

  3. Ensure your router's 2.4 GHz band is enabled and transmitting.

By connecting your HP Deskjet 2800e to the dedicated 2.4 GHz network, you ensure a stable and reliable connection on the band it was designed for.

I hope the above is helpful
