Hi @Angry5000,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

What you are seeing, the prompt asking for a username/password assigned to the printer, happens when the printer has saved wireless settings or Web Services credentials, and the simplest resolution is to reset the printer’s network settings completely. You don’t need to remember the old password. You can restore it to factory network state and reconnect fresh.

Step 1: Restore Network Settings (Clears Password)

  1. Turn the printer ON
  2. Press and hold:
    • Cancel button (X)
    • Wireless button (📶)
Example of pressing the Wireless and Cancel buttons for five seconds
  3. Hold for 5 seconds, then release

👉 You will notice:

  • The blue Wi‑Fi light starts blinking rapidly
  • This indicates the printer has entered setup mode, and previous credentials are erased

Step 2: Reconnect Using HP Smart

  1. On your phone or computer, open HP Smart
  2. Click + Add Printer
  3. Select your DeskJet 2620 (it will appear in setup mode)
  4. Follow the prompts and enter your new Wi‑Fi password

👉 Stay close to the printer and router during setup. You may see the light flicker as it connects

Step 3: If It Still Asks for a username/Password

This means your system is trying to access the printer using old stored credentials.

Do this:

On Windows:

  1. Go to Control Panel → Credential Manager
  2. Select Windows Credentials
  3. Remove any entries related to HP/printer / IP address
  4. Restart the PC

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
