HP Deskjet 2800e All in one Printer

I have spent all day trying to install my HP Desk Jet 2800e  but it wont connect to the laptop even though the description of the printer is on screen. It just keeps telling to install it.  I have also scanned the barcode on my phone, installed HP Smart. It says to pick my printer from the list but my printer is not on the list so i cant pick it.

I have also tried to install it from the control panel and it wont pick up the printer or IP address or serial number

@MoiraMC1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering an issue where your HP DeskJet 2800e is not showing up in the HP Smart app, even after scanning the barcode and following the installation steps. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this:

Check Printer Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that both your printer and laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If the printer is connected to a different network, the HP Smart app won't recognize it.
  • Restart Devices: Restart both the printer and your laptop to refresh their network connections.

Reset Network Settings on Printer

Reset the printer's network settings to ensure it connects to your Wi-Fi correctly:

  1. On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button together for about 5 seconds.
  2. The printer's Wi-Fi indicator will blink, signaling that the network settings have been reset.
  3. Follow the instructions on the printer's control panel to reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.

Reinstall HP Smart

  • Uninstall HP Smart and reinstall the app. Sometimes, the app needs a fresh install to detect the printer correctly.
  • Recheck for Updates: Ensure that both your operating system and the HP Smart app are up-to-date.

Use the Printer’s IP Address

Open the HP Smart app, select Add a printer, and if your printer doesn’t appear, you can try to manually enter the IP address of the printer.

  • To find the printer's IP address, print a network configuration page from the printer's control panel (check your printer manual for instructions).
  • Once you have the IP address, enter it into the HP Smart app when prompted.

Check for Compatibility Issues

Ensure that your laptop's operating system is compatible with the version of HP Smart you're using. Sometimes there may be compatibility issues with certain OS versions.

Install Printer Drivers Manually

If none of the above works, try to install the printer via Windows' Control Panel or the Devices and Printers section:

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click Add a printer.
  3. If the printer is detected, select it and follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
