I cannot get 1 month old HP 5100 to stay connected to internet.  Have disconnected router twice with no change. 

then uninstalled and now says driver unavailable.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 5100 is having connectivity and driver issues. Follow these steps to fix it:

 

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cable and wait 1-2 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Try printing again.

 

Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

If the printer won’t stay connected:

  1. Reset Network Settings on the printer:
    • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button (or Wireless + Cancel buttons) for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light blinks.
    • The printer is now in Wi-Fi setup mode.
  2. Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
    • Open the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
    • Click “+” (Add a Printer) and follow the setup instructions.
    • Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, not 5 GHz.

 

Reinstall Drivers

Since it says “Driver Unavailable”, reinstall the drivers:

  1. Uninstall the printer completely:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices & Printers.
    • Right-click your HP 5100 and choose Remove Device.
    • Restart your PC.
  2. Download the latest driver:
    • Go to HP’s official website.
    • Search for HP Smart Tank 5100 drivers.
    • Download and install the full HP Printer Software package.
  3. Reinstall the printer:
    • Open HP Smart.
    • Click Add Printer and follow the steps.

 

Set Printer as Default

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices & Printers.
  2. Right-click your HP Smart Tank 5100.
  3. Select Set as Default Printer.

 

Run HP Print & Scan Doctor

HP has a tool that can automatically fix many issues:

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Open it and select your HP 5100 printer.
  3. Click Fix Printing and follow the instructions.
