changed routers to Xfinity. It's an auto dual band (2.4 and 5) and my 6700 won't connect unless I disable one of the bands. HOw do I fix this?  Here's how it appears.  I use the wizard to connect and in the end it says the password is wrong (it isn't wrong).  I then print the network config /wireless network test results and it shows the actual error: "more than one access point/wireless router has been found that matches your wireless network name (SSID).  If this is not intended, your HP printer may connect to the wrong wireless network.  To avoid this, change your wireless network name (SSID) to be unique."

You know that won't fix the problem.  With my old router I had separate 2.4 and 5Ghz networks, but this new Xfinity router has both in one (it stitches between them depending upon which device is connecting and how strong each signal is at that time.  It also switches between them if using a mobile device as you move about).  The fix needs to come from HP, I think, and they are notoriously slow at responding to new equipment.  My workaround is that I have manually disable the 5Ghz network, but that's not a permanent solution as it interferes with other things in my network.  Anyone know how to fix this?  Thanks.

Hi,

The HP Officejet 6700 printer is an older model, supporting 2.4GHz wireless operations only, so the wireless band frequency is not the only issue in here, the printer doesn't even see the 5.0GHz wireless so it cannot cause the printer to identify multiple SSIDs in range.

I would assume it may offer any multiple access point in your home, (probably having multiple xFi Gateway?)  check with Xfinity for an option to provide a separate name for each gateway) and then try to connect.

Additionally, please make sure that both the printer's and the router's firmware are both up to date.

For the printer, connect the printer to the network by changing its settings temporarily, then check for any printer updates:

If you are not offered with any, print a Printer Status report:

What is your currently listed firmware version?

ShlomiL,

Thank you.  I did as you suggested and downloaded updates for the printer.  As soon as the update completed my printer was, again, offline!  I then spent an hour trying to figure out what to do about it and in frustration I decided to place the settings back to their original configuration with both the 2.4 and 5Ghz networks enabled, and , voila, the printer started printing.  I guess the new software enabled it to deal with the new router.  Thank you for setting me not eh right path.

If you are around in a bit I'm going to post another help request for an HP 3015.  It's older than the 6700 and hard to manage.

Hutch
