macOS 10.14 Mojave

I am trying to connect a printer to wireless when a prompt appears that reads "A custom password has been set for your printer. Enter the password to access the printer web interface."

I do not know what the password is as I've recently acquired the printer.  Checked some solutions out which do not work for me.  When printing the info page, no password or serial number is printed as the solutions have all mentioned.

Resetting does not seem to work either?

Hello,

What is the exact model of your printer (e.g. CB747A)?

Try the following solution (HP Color Laser MFP):

  1. Make sure the printer is connected to a network.

  2. On the control panel, print a report of your network configuration.

  3. Look at the bottom of the page
    Example PIN Number:
    Mans_0-1643723400892.png

  4. The magic is the SSID written as Current SSID, the password written as Network Key and the buildin IP address.

  5. Now, connect with a machine with a wifi adapter such as a computer, to the SSID and type in the mentioned password.

  6. Login to the Embedded Web Server with admin and the password written as PIN Number.

  7. Change at least the admin password.

HP DeskJet, ENVY 6000 et 6400:

  • If a Find Printer PIN message displays during setup, enter the PIN found on the label on the printer.
  • The label is located in the cartridge compartment.

Don't hesitate to contatct us in case of need.

I have a HP Desk Jet 3631.

After I wrote this, I was able to print out the PIN number and get the serial number it still did not work.  This is the message I am getting on HP Smart.

The print out also  says the printer is unable to connect to the wireless router.  But I cannot do anything until I can get pass the password prompt.

Thanks for your return,

The firmware must be updated first if an older version is installed, else the reset will not be made.

Please update the printer's firmware: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-3630-all-in-one-printer-series/7172306.

You will need to follow the instructions below to reset printer:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold down the Color Copy and the WiFi Direct buttons.
  3. Hold the buttons when you turn on the printer.
  4. When the all light turns on, release the Color Copy and the WiFi Direct buttons.
NOTE: It takes about 60 seconds before initialization process begins.
  5. The initialization starts.
  6. When the initialization completes, please reconfigure the printer.

If the reset does not work, I recommend that you contact HP Technical Support. Contact HP HP Support in your country/region.

I remain at your disposal in case of need.

Further information:

Print a network configuration page to retrieve the requested password.

  1. On the printer's control panel, press the Wireless () button and the Information () button at the same time.
Both a Network Configuration Page and a Wireless Network Test Report print.
  2. Look for the mention WPS PIN on the network configuration pages. This is the code that is requested during the configuration of your printer.
  3. Type in this code which can be found on the network information pages of the printer during its configuration.

Don't hesitate to contact us in case of need.

Thank you!

I tried your first solution of updating Firmware and it doesn't seem to be working.  Downloaded it and the program is continuously searching for device with no avail.

Also tried to add device manually with the IP address and it also did not work.

I also tried the WPS PIN which also does not work.  Printed out 3 different PINs as they are only valid for 5 mins.
