Accessing printer at my brother's home. I am not home

I live in New York.  I am currently in Chicago dealing with my father's estate.  He recently passed and I am executor of the estate.  I have on my computer documents which I need to print for the attorney and others.  My brother has an HP Officejet Pro 8620, but I can't seem to connect to it. I have followed all of the prompts given through the virtual assistant, but to no avail.  

I downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which successfully identified my brother's printer, and directed me to download the installer.  But, all I get is a page not found error message.  

I need the documents to give to the attorney on Wednesday.  Please help!

I am sorry for your loss - that's a tough one.

OK - guessing that you are using form supported version of Windows -- the Doctor is generally a Windows tool.

If you have any HP printers or hardware at home, this might not be ghastly different.

A couple of "Things to know" points:

>>> Printer and computer should be on the same network.

>>> Make sure Windows is not selecting and managing your default printer.

What?  If you let Windows decide about your default printing device, it will pick the "last printer used" -- that's all fine and good but Windows can lose track of what YOU want.

Preparation > Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers and scanners

Scroll down > Switch OFF Let Windows manage my default printer

When you have a printer connected...

Scroll up > Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Set as Default

Windows 10

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer

When you have a printer connected...

Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default

Printer - Software

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant and HP Scan. If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

Uninstall the full driver printer software from Programs and Features

Restart computer and Sign in

Install a new copy of the Full Feature Software

Restart computer and Sign in

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note:  HP Scan is not installed (only) when the printer supports Scan.

When needed / wanted, enable "Scan to Computer" using the Printer Assistant

Open the Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable
