I'm really struggling to connect my printer to the internet since we upgraded our package and were given a new router. I can't access any of the advanced settings for the printer because they are locked away behind a custom password that I didn't set up and the trick i used with our last router won't work as this new one doesn't have a wps button I can press to connect it that way. how do I reset the admin password so that I can access the settings?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If you open the front cover of the printer - as if to remove the print cartridges - you will find the default EWS password (it's actually a PIN number) printed on the right, along with your printer's serial number.

Let me know if this helps.

I've just tried putting that in and it comes up saying that it's incorrect and that a custom password has been set by the administrator. It's something that I've never been able to get past, I bought the printer from Amazon Warehouse in as new condition so I've just a;ways assumed somebody bought it, set it up and then returned it. I never really looked into trying to access the settings properly before because I managed to connect it to our old router and we could do what we needed it to do that way. But now we have an eero 6 hub i can't just press the wps button and let them connect themselves. So i need to find a way to reset the password.

I'm not sure if its connected to the password issue or not but in trying to figure it out I found that there is an outstanding firmware update for the printer but whenever i try to install it, it says it failed. I'm half thinking the best solution may be to try and find a way to restore it to factory settings and start over.
