HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

I was out of the office for about four weeks and I lost scanning and printing wirelessly. I have HP Officeject Pro 8600.

When I try to add the printer to the network I am not able to change it because the feature has been locked by administor or person who set up the computer. I This my office, I st this printer up and did not lock anything or adding an administrator.

do not have the password.

I would like to reset the printer to factory defult but am having trouble. There is no back button on this model for reset. I tried holding down the start button and unplugging for 15 second but this did not work either. I would appreciate support on this please. - Thank you -

Hi @Mhawk57,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To reset your HP Officejet Pro 8600 to factory defaults without an administrator password, follow these steps to unlock it and restore its settings.

Reset via Printer Menu:

Access the Service Menu:

  • On the printer's control panel, tap the Home button to access the main menu.
  • From the home screen, touch the Right Arrow button to reveal more options.
  • Select Setup (gear icon) from the list of options.

Restore Factory Settings:

  • In the Setup menu, scroll down and select Tools.
  • Look for the Restore Factory Defaults option and select it.
  • The printer will reset itself to the factory defaults, and any administrator password or network configuration will be removed.

Administrator Password Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS):

If the reset from the menu doesn’t work, try resetting via the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

Connect the printer to your computer via USB or Ethernet cable (since you lost wireless access).

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Open a web browser on your computer.
  • Type the printer's IP address into the address bar (you can find this by printing a network configuration page from the printer).
  • Press Enter to access the printer’s EWS page.

Disable Administrator Settings:

  • Go to the Settings tab in the EWS.
  • Navigate to Security.
  • Disable any administrator settings or restrictions that are locked.

Hard Reset (Power Cycle Reset):

If both methods above fail, try a more comprehensive reset:

  • Turn the printer off using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds while the power cord is unplugged.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

After these steps, the printer should return to its default settings, and you'll be able to reconfigure it, including setting up the wireless network again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
