My Photosmart C4780 was working fine on an ATT home network. I switched to Comcast and it stopped working.
I reinstalled the printer driver and it talk to the printer only via the USB cable. When it tries to connect wirelessly
it issues some complaint about MAC address and filtering that I do not understand.
I used the printer setup wizzard to connect via WPS -- it tried to connect for a few minutes and then issued
"WPS Error".
Please advise. Thanks.

@sgeneris, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I see that you are not able to connect the printer to the new wireless router.
- This printer only supports 2.4GHz network.
- Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
- This printer supports WPA encryption, check if the router is on the same encryption method. If using WEP or WPA-PSK+FT change it to WPA-PSK
- If MAC address filtering is enabled on the router, you will have to add the printer to the 'allowed' list. You will have to contact your internet service provider for assistance.
For more info on how to connect the printer, refer to - Connecting an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

After the Comcast technician spent a day splitting the two bands and trying many things, the issue was escalated and a more knowledgeable techie concluded that the Photosmart C4780 supports only WEP and WPA security, but not the
WPA2 supported by the Comcast router.
Can you pls confirm that this is true for the printer?
Comcast advises me not to lower security. Do you know of any security workaround to print wireless?
Thanx.

@sgeneris
Yes, that's correct and I have mentioned this in my previous post.
This model printer is old and hence, does not support the newer technology.
As the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer to resolve this issue. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I do have a question:
When I used the driver installer for the printer, it named the printer HP Photosmart C4700.series.
But when I installed it last time, it named it: HP Photosmart C4700_TMP00_TMP00_TMP00.
Any idea why?
03-27-2022 09:57 AM
What I am saying is that the HP software that installs the driver attaches those 3 TMP00 to the name of the printer when it installs the driver -- see image. This was not happening in earlier cases when I had to uninstall and re-install the driver, but does happen now. Given that this is HP software, I would appreciate it if you could find out what can cause this -- if it signals some problem with the installation.
In Control Panel
Also, shouldn't the printer appear in Device Manager? If so, it does not.

@sgeneris
If the printer does not appear in the device manager, it means it is not connected to the computer. Also, there should be a printer driver installed for the computer to talk to the printer.
If these 2 criteria are not met, the printer will not be detected in the device manager.
As mentioned in my previous post, HP does not have a driver for this model printer to work on Win 10 OS anymore. Hence, I'm not sure what the TMP00 is.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.
