I own three (!) HP Color LaserJets MFP M283fdw (9197E2) - they work fine on my older Macs with earlier operating systems , but the new Mac running on OS 12.5.1 crashes the printer each time I give a print command.
The printer is actually recognized and provides information such as supply levels; it also scans without a problem; but giving a print command causes it to crash and restart - EACH TIME, regardless of whether wireless or via USB.
Suggestions from HP, such as downloading a driver package, are useless. I am sure this problem exists across the board and is known to the manufacturer. But when will we have a fix??

Further to my above post: I found a firmware update (HP_Color_LaserJet_Pro_MFP_M282_M285_Series-20220729) dated Sept. 1 - it got installed alright, but now the printer prints exactly once (after restarting the computer), and then returns to its crash mode as before.

I see that you are facing issues with your HP Printer when printing from Mac computer.
Please follow the steps listed below to reset printing systems and then add the printer.
1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
2. Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.
3. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.
4. Click Reset or OK.
Note: Once you click on reset any other printer added to this computer will also get deleted and needs to be added again.

6. Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.
7. Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
8. In the Printers window on the Mac, click the Add button.
