Is there a way to scan from the printer and the file going to the android device? Error says use a different printer. Doesn't my printer support this? I just don't see the technical limitation when the printer can do print from the device but not scan to the device.

Hi @chococheesecake,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your HP Envy 7200 series printer does support scanning to an Android device, but there could be a few reasons why you're getting the error. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Check the HP Smart App
Make sure you're using the HP Smart app on your Android device, which supports scanning from your printer directly to your phone. If you don't have it, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
- Steps to Scan via HP Smart:
- Open the HP Smart app on your Android device.
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone.
- In the app, tap the "Scan" option.
- Select your HP Envy 7200 series printer as the source, and follow the prompts to scan.
- After scanning, the file should appear on your device, and you can save it or share it.
Ensure the Printer is Connected Properly
The error suggesting "use a different printer" could indicate a connection issue between the printer and the phone. Ensure both your printer and phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If you've set up the printer with a direct USB connection or wired network, scanning via an Android device may not work unless both are on the same wireless network.
Reset and Reconnect the Printer
Try turning off both the printer and your Android device, then restart both and reconnect them using Wi-Fi. You may need to reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi through the printer control panel.
Check for Software/Firmware Updates
Ensure that both the HP Smart app on your Android device and the printer’s firmware are up to date. Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues between scanning functions.
Try a Different App
If the HP Smart app is not working properly, try using a different scanning app that supports HP printers, such as Google Drive or Adobe Scan, which may have broader compatibility.
If the issue persists after these steps, there could be a specific configuration issue or bug, in which case resetting the network settings on your printer might help.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
