I have a printing issue that is driving me crazy.

Device information:

Printer: HP Laserjet Pro MFP M148dw

I reset printer to factory defaults. Reset security settings. Reset network settings. Printer is updated to the latest version.

Software version: 044.009.2760.21326

Driver version: 8.0.1329.6503

Phone: Pixel 6. Running the latest Android 12 version available.

Chrome (Android): Running the latest version.

I setup my printer (HP Laserjet Pro MFP M148dw) on my laptop and it works great, everything is working as it should. On my partners iPhone everything also works perfectly.

The issue is on my Pixel 6, I am unable to print from G-Mail or from chrome. To be more specific, when I open an email in G-Mail and click the 3 dots and then click print. Or in Chrome when I open a website, click the 3 dots - share - print.  When I try printing these things happen.

  • ~80% of the time the printer receives the information (says its printing document) then immediately that notification disappears and nothing happens. It doesn't print.
  • Sometimes I get a error message on android phone that says printer blocked print job
  • Sometimes the printer shows the error notification: 79. without me doing anything the printer restarts
  • Rarely, the printer (or maybe the phone I am forgetting) says printer is no longer supporting encrypted jobs
  • Rarely other instances happen. Like the print job stays in que on phone, but on printer nothing happens

Additionally

  • When I print to pdf from an email from G-Mail (which works fine), printing the PDF to the printer also does not work/print
  • However, when I print a PDF of any other document it does work/print.
  • When I print from Google Photos it does work/print.

My troubleshooting.

After factory resetting my Pixel 6. Interestingly, it was printing correctly from G-Mail after this. However was only working sometimes (if I remember correctly) from chrome.

Note: At this point (because I factory reset) the phone was not updated to the latest Android 12.

After updating my Pixel 6 Android 12 version OS and all my apps to the latest version (including G-Mail and Chrome) the problem persists. I am still unable to print emails from G-Mail.

My theory is perhaps there is some sort of encryption with the latest google Pixel 6 Android 12 printing from Chrome or G-Mail that the printer won't accept. Somehow the encryption even caries over to when I save email as PDF and then print?

Or maybe there is some export issue with the print from these apps?

Any advice to how I may fix this would be nice. Or if others are having the problem.

If there is any other information that I should provide let me know and I will provide it.

EDIT: I factory reset again. I printed an email from G-Mail successfully. However, after updating my Android apps to the latest version it no longer worked.

My conclusion is that some google update is preventing a successful print to happen?

I understand you are not able to print from your Android devices. Thank you for the detailed information.

Have you tried printing PDFs or Images from these devices to the printer and check if it works?

You may use the HP Smart app.
