I have an older HP Laserjet CP1518ni and new on yesterday HP 6055e. I set up the 6055e and got everything working. But then I started worrying about what SMB version support they came from. I contacted HP support on chat and they said the 6055e used SMBv1!!!!! Why would they do that? It is known to have security vulnerabilities and Microsoft deprecated it back in 2004 or maybe earlier.
Both of these printers where not listed in the document I found in the 6055e manuals on line.
So I have 2 questions.
1. Can anyone verify for sure what SMB version these printers are using?
2. What triggers the use of SMB with these printers.
As for that second question, is it ONLY when the printer/scanner accesses a network share for the files? Is it just when the scanner portion of the 6055e tries to save to a network share?
The laserjet is networked to the router via ethernet. How does the PC interact with the printer? Does it communicate via smb? Or is smb only involved if I try to print from a network shared device?
I disabled SMBv1 using powershell. Both devices still seem to function and don't show up using SMB in the audit event log. But I am either saving sto my local PC or printing from

Hi,
SMB have nothing much to do with standard network printing, this may affect network scanning, network print sharing through a print server, nothing applies to a network-enable printer connected to a standard network, none of the affected features are applicable for your printer model and therefore not have any affect:

Was there something in the file that I should look at? I don't see either of my printers there.
What does "network scanning" mean? Do you mean some program that is scanning devices on the network? Or do you mean using a printer/scanner on a network to scan a document?
And if the printer has SMBv1 enabled, can something open an SMB connection (or whatever SMB does?) In other words, is there ANY risk of having the printer sitting there with its SMB enabled?
Do you know where there is a good write-up on what SMB does? I only searched a little bit and didn't turn up things that looked relevant.
... time passes ...
Ah, I finally spotted the part you quoted. Thanks.
So I don't think I have any need of the part that would use the 6055e SMB.
So does anyone know specifically what SMB version is in the 6055e? Is there a way to detect it from the PC?
FWIW Shlomil, your signature says to press the Yes button if the post was helpful, but there is no Yes button on the page. Only "Reply" and "Acccept as Solution"

I added the HP and the Samsung Print Service to my phone (Galaxy S10). I printed a document with the Samsunt service and when it executed that, the phone screen showed the name of the file and then "SHARED" after it. I wonder if that is using Direct Printing or SMB?

I also wonder about what is being used for OneDrive files. When I go into Word on a OneDrive file and tell it to print to the 6055e, does it send it by SMB since it is, in a sense, a network file?
When you said "none of the affected features are applicable for your printer model and therefore not have any affect:", do you mean that my printer model doesn't have SMB at all?
