My HP OfficeJet PRO 8730 works for about 5 minutes and then the LCD screen flashes.
I reboot the printer and sometimes receive the error code B83C12FC. Does this tell me what my printer failure is all about?

Dear Alden4,
I looked in the original HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 manual and found this information on page 141:
I chose Printer Setup from the restore settings and “touched Restore” and “yes”.
I ran the Install Firmware process. At first, the software didn’t find the printer.
I looked in Windows 11 setup and found the Printer. I ran a Windows 11 test page and the printer test worked.
I then ran HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.7.1 and it failed to see the printer.
I rebooted my HP Envy Desktop.
I reran the “Doctor 5.7.1” again and “fixed problems”.
I reran the Install Firmware function which found the printer and the installation was successful.
All the HP Smart functions are successful.
Your original evaluation was correct regarding the failed firmware installation and, after 4 hours, the printer is running and now idling without incident.

Hi @AllTex,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code "B83C12FC" that you are seeing on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 printer's display indicates a firmware error. This error could be caused by a variety of issues, including corrupted firmware, an incomplete or failed firmware update, or a hardware malfunction.
Here are a few steps you can take to try to resolve the issue.
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for at least 60 seconds. Then, plug the printer back in and turn it on. This will perform a power reset on the printer.
- If the error persists, try to update the firmware of your printer. You can download the latest firmware from the HP support website. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure that the firmware update is successful.
- If the firmware update doesn't fix the issue, you may need to perform a factory reset on your printer. To do this, turn off the printer, press and hold the lower left corner of the touchscreen, and then turn the printer back on. Keep holding the touchscreen until you see "Permanent storage init" on the screen. Release the touchscreen, and the printer will perform a factory reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I switched back over to my Ethernet connection to ensure that the firmware update will be successful.
I successfully updated to the latest firmware.
The problem came back.
Thanks for any updates to your previous instructions. Lawrence Dishman
