I "inherited" an old HP Photosmart Plus All-In-One B290a wireless printer and have been unsuccessful setting it up for WiFi.  I do not have the HP install CDs nor do I have a computer with a CD/DVD drive anyway.  I am attempting to get this printer working foe a friend to use in a wireless capacity.  I have a Chromebook and Android phone plus access to an iPhone and iPad.  The friend has an iPhone and Chromebook.

I performed a reset on the printer to reset any WiFi settings that may have been saved.

The HP ePrint app for Android does no longer appear to exist.  I installed the HP Smart app on an iPhone and attempted to use it to setup the printer for our WiFi but HP Smart doesn't see the printer although my Android phone and the iPhone see the "hpsetup" name as a WiFi network name.   According to doc I found on the HP Support website, it appears that HP Smart on IOS for this printer might only work for printing, not for setup.

So my question is whether this old printer can be setup for a WiFi network even if the setup CD is unavailable and no computer is available?

Hi @DD1954,

I'd like to help!

Try and connect the prier to the network using wireless setup wizard-

on the printer control panel touch setup-->network-->wireless settings -->wireless setup wizard select your network ad to enter the password.

You may refer to Install and Use the HP Smart App (Android, Apple iOS, iPadOS)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Jay_G24,

This particular printer does not have a Wireless Setup Wizard option.

Could that came about from a firmware update long ago that the original owner never installed?

Use the push or the pin method to connect to the printer, you may refer to page 5 of the user guide  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01796502

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Jay_G24,

I recently switched to a TP-Link mesh WiFi network at my home so I no longer have the Push/Pin method for connecting a wireless device.  But the friend that I'm trying to setup this printer for has a Cox router that may have Push/Pin capability or my daughter may have that feature on their AT&T router.  I had seen the Push/Pin method in the online printer manual but I didn't pursue it since I don't have that capability.  I'll see if that is a possibility at my daughter's house or the friend's house.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Jay_G24,

I checked the TP-Link app on my Android phone that I use to setup/manage my home TP-Link mesh network and their is a WPS option but the printer gave me an error (no message or error code) when following the WPS Push method in the HP Manual for the B209.  There is no Pin method on my TP-Link app and neither is their a Pin option on this printer.  According to the HP B209 Manual, an HP Bluetooth card plugged into the printer USB port is required to communicate with the printer so that's not an option.

I'll try the WPS Push method at either my daughter's house or the person I'm trying to donate this printer to next time I'm at either house within the next week.
