Hi @John1314,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, you can connect your HP printer to your laptop using a USB cord, and you can print directly from your laptop without using an Instant Ink subscription. Here’s how to set it up:
1. Check the USB Cord
Ensure you have a compatible USB cable. Most HP printers use a standard USB Type-A to USB Type-B cable. The USB Type-B end connects to the printer, while the USB Type-A end connects to your laptop.
2. Connect the Printer to Your Laptop
- Turn on the Printer: Make sure your HP printer is powered on.
- Connect the USB Cable: Plug the USB Type-B end of the cable into the printer and the USB Type-A end into your laptop.
3. Install the Printer Software
For Windows:
- Automatic Installation:
- Windows 10/11: When you connect the printer via USB, Windows should automatically detect the printer and attempt to install the necessary drivers. You should see a notification in the system tray indicating that the drivers are being installed.
- Manual Installation:
- Download Drivers: If automatic installation doesn’t occur or fails, you can manually download the drivers from the HP website.
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your printer model (e.g., HP DeskJet Plus 4155) in the search bar.
- Navigate to the Drivers & Software section.
- Download and install the appropriate drivers for your operating system
- Download Drivers: If automatic installation doesn’t occur or fails, you can manually download the drivers from the HP website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
