Hi @jfrank3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

To share your HP OfficeJet Pro 8015e printer with other PCs on your local area network (LAN) while it is connected via USB to one computer, follow these steps:

Step 1: Share the Printer from the Host Computer

Connect and Set Up the Printer:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to the host computer via USB and that the necessary drivers are installed.

Open the Control Panel:

  • On the host computer, open the Control Panel. You can do this by searching for "Control Panel" in the Start menu.

Navigate to Devices and Printers:

  • In the Control Panel, select "Devices and Printers" or "View devices and printers" under the "Hardware and Sound" category.

Open Printer Properties:

  • Locate your HP OfficeJet Pro 8015e printer in the list, right-click on it, and select "Printer properties."

Enable Sharing:

  • In the Printer Properties window, go to the "Sharing" tab.
  • Check the box that says "Share this printer."
  • Provide a share name for the printer. This name will be used to identify the printer on the network.

Apply and Close:

  • Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes and close the Printer Properties window.

Step 2: Connect to the Shared Printer from Other Computers

Open the Control Panel:

  • On another computer on your LAN, open the Control Panel.

Navigate to Devices and Printers:

  • Select "Devices and Printers" or "View devices and printers" under the "Hardware and Sound" category.

Add a Printer:

  • Click on "Add a printer" at the top of the window.

Select the Shared Printer:

  • Choose "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer."
  • Wait for the system to search for available printers. The shared printer should appear in the list with the share name you provided earlier.

Install the Printer:

  • Select the shared printer and click "Next."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer on the computer. The system may automatically download and install the necessary drivers.

Complete the Setup:

  • Once the installation is complete, the shared printer should appear in the "Devices and Printers" list on the other computer.

Hi @jfrank3,

Please find the next steps below

Troubleshooting Tips

Ensure Network Discovery is Enabled:

  • On all computers, ensure that network discovery and file and printer sharing are enabled in the network settings.
  • You can check this by going to "Control Panel" > "Network and Sharing Center" > "Advanced sharing settings."

Firewall Settings:

  • Make sure that firewall settings on the host computer and other PCs allow printer sharing.

Host Computer Must Be On:

  • The host computer (the one connected to the printer via USB) must be powered on and connected to the network for other PCs to print.

By following these steps, you should be able to share your HP OfficeJet Pro 8015e printer with other computers on your local network.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

I went through all the steps on the PC the printer is connected. It's Windows 11. When I try to add it to another PC (Windows 10), I get a message saying unable to connect. Any thoughts?

Hi @jfrank3 ,

Thank you for performing the recommended steps, I see that it has not helped.

Let's try these steps and see if they work.

To share your HP 8015e printer over the LAN and resolve the issue where another PC (running Windows 10) cannot connect, follow these steps:

On the Windows 11 PC (Host):

Ensure Printer Sharing is Enabled:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP 8015e printer.
  • Click on Printer properties.
  • Go to the Sharing tab.
  • Check the box for Share this printer.
  • Give the printer a share name (keep it simple and without spaces).

Check Network Discovery and File/Printer Sharing:

  • Go to Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings.
  • Select More network adapter options.
  • Right-click on your active network and choose Properties.
  • Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  • Click Advanced and go to the WINS tab.
  • Ensure that Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP is selected.
  • Return to the Advanced network settings.
  • Under Network discovery and file sharing, ensure Network discovery and File and Printer Sharing are turned on.

Verify Firewall Settings:

  • Open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection.
  • Click on Allow an app through firewall.
  • Ensure that File and Printer Sharing is allowed on both Private and Public networks.

On the Windows 10 PC (Client):

Connect to the Shared Printer:

  • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click on Add a printer or scanner.
  • Scroll down and select The printer that I want isn't listed.
  • Choose Select a shared printer by name.
  • Enter the printer’s path in the format \\HostPCName\PrinterShareName (e.g., \\YourWindows11PC\HP8015e).

Check Network Discovery and File/Printer Sharing:

  • Ensure Network discovery and File and Printer Sharing are enabled on the Windows 10 PC as well (follow the same steps as in the Windows 11 section).

Troubleshooting:

  • Ensure Both PCs are on the Same Network: Make sure both the Windows 11 and Windows 10 PCs are connected to the same network.
  • Test the Printer Connection: Try pinging the Windows 11 PC from the Windows 10 PC to check network connectivity (ping HostPCName in Command Prompt).
  • Check for Driver Issues: Make sure the necessary drivers are installed on the Windows 10 PC.

If the issue persists, consider disabling any third-party firewall or antivirus software temporarily to check if they are causing the connection problem.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
