hp officejet 8500a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had my hp officejet 8500a connected to my wireless network since I got it. I recently upgrade to the Arris Surfboard G36 but can't get the printer to connect to it. It does not has a physical WPS button. I attempted to set it up in the surfboard gateway but it gives me an error message. When the printer searches  for a wifi network it only finds the 2.G not the 5G. When I go through the process and add the passcode, it still does not connect. Arris says I need to get port information from HP but HP no longer provides service for this printer. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in adcance

======================================================================

Router - Connections / SSID named network

The printer is never going to recognize 5G - it supports much older wireless only

If your router supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, it might still connect to the printer.

Be sure you have the router set to broadcast on both frequencies.

Assign a separate SSID named network for each frequency.

Connect the printer to the named SSID network it will use.

Example - Dual Bandwidth Router

SSID_Dual_Band_Example_8SSID_Dual_Band_Example_8

The next challenge is the older printer software.

Last released in 2014, the software might - and just as likely might NOT - support Windows 10.

I have both bands enabled and I am attempting to connect to the 2.4G that the printer recognizes. The printer works with windows 10 just fine. I was using it with my windows 10 computers until I got this new modem.
