At my company we have over 400 HP printers. Most of them I have no issue with setting up on our print server.
But lately a handful of them are giving me this issue. We recently opened a new location, with 4 new HP printers to setup. 3 of the 4 went OK, no issues.
But this printer, HP Laserjet M507 is giving us fits. I can see the printer no issue, have it assigned to a static IP. Web UI looks normal. When I add it to the print server, it goes OK at first. We use the HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v7.0.0) for all our printers. The last step when it tries to complete it just hangs. After a few minutes I have to kill the process.
When I pull Print Management back up, the printer is there. But doing a right click->properties brings up this weird box that I can't really do anything. It also appears to hang till I restart the process or the spool service.
Here is the text on the Box: To view device properties, you must first specify your desired printer. Select the HP printer you want to use.
Then options below. 'Recently Used Printers'. 'Find a printer'. 'Enter a Printer Address'. 'Search for Network Printers'. 'Search for Print shares'.
Here is a screenshot.
This box also hangs Print Management, I have to restart the print spooler or end task on the MMC window to get it to respond.
Pretty baffled by this, wonder if anyone has seen it before. I upgraded the Firmware on the printer to the latest from December 2021, that does not seem to have helped though.
