I am trying to setup instant ink account on the above HP. I have been printing wirelessly with no problems. When I attempt to hit print it basically states can't connect to server? I tried to upgrade to latest firmware OJP8600_N911g-n_2011A.dmg. It gives me an error that I can't update firmware. "This firmware does not contain upgrades for your device". Seems as though I should be able to get all this to work but not sure how to begin? I am running the latest HP smart software. On this computer I am on Mac OS X 10.15.7? I was able to access the URL for the printer and web services is on and there are no updates? I really think this is a firmware issue perhaps but I can't determine which firmware is already installed on the printer?

Welcome to the HP support community.
Turn On Web Services to connect the web services again, below are the steps.
-
Make sure the printer is connected to a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network with an active internet connection.
NOTE:
If you connect your printer to a computer with a USB cable, web-connected printing services do not work.
-
If your printer is connected with a wired (Ethernet) connection, check the cable and the lights on the printer’s Ethernet
port. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink when the cable is connected.
-
If your printer is connected with a wireless connection, make sure the wireless feature is on and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
Some printers have a wireless icon
and a blue light on the front of the printer. If the printer has a blue light, and the light is on and not blinking, your printer is connected.
-
-
On your control panel, press the HP ePrint
icon.
If your control panel does not have an HP ePrint icon, navigate to Web Services Setup, Network Setup, or Wireless Settings to open the Web Services menu.
-
If a summary screen displays, Web Services is already on.
-
If a prompt to turn on Web Services or set up HP ePrint displays, follow the prompts to turn it on or set it up.
-
-
If you are prompted to update the firmware, press OK.

Hi
So I have already hit the eprint icon and it states that I can’t connect. I have gone to the url and it states that I am on web services but does not work? As I stated in my post it appears I need a firmware upgrade which I can’t do?

You're funny - Getting Tech Support on an 8600 series device...
These are ancient so, if it's even offered you better have your bank account ready when you call.
What really amazes me the most about all the recent 8600 series HP Web Services issue posts I've been seeing (there are tons of them if you look around the HP Community) regarding ANY AND ALL VERSIONS / VARIANTS OF 8600 SERIES OFFICEJET PRINTERS, is the remarkable (and seemingly quite-clueless) answers/suggestions being given by HP Employees throughout the HP Community - my most favorite of which are the HP response posts saying; Just download and install the latest firmware, that'll fix it...
Oh sure, we can download it - but installing it is impossible (because it finds the 8600 and says the update is "Not Applicable"). It's been impossible to install this latest firmware since it was release back in October 2020.
So what we actually have here is something that HP broke themselves (at their end of Web Services due to a URL change,) and now they want us to pay their Support Department to fix their screw-up - Gee, what an inventive way for getting extra cash-flow into HP coffers, eh?
I've given up on HP Smart, HP Web Apps, HP Web Services, and HP Products...

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
