HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I have recently changed my internet provider and when I went to connect my printer to the internet the wireless connection section is grayed out and says I am not able to change that setting because it has been locked by the person that set it up. I am the one who set it up, but it won't let me change anything. I am also enrolled in the hp ink and don't want to mess that up.

Thanks

Hi @Amandap82,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer is in a restricted mode that prevents changes to the wireless settings. This often happens when the printer is set up with an admin password or when certain settings have been locked during the initial setup. Here's how you can resolve this.

Steps to Unlock Wireless Settings:

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Find the Printer's IP Address:
    • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer. This can usually be done by navigating to the Setup menu > Reports > Network Configuration Page on the printer's control panel.
    • Look for the IP Address under the IPv4 section.
  • Open the EWS:
    • Open a web browser on a device connected to the same network as the printer.
    • Enter the printer's IP address into the browser's address bar.
    • Press Enter to access the printer’s EWS.

Check for Admin Settings:

  • Once in the EWS, look for a section related to Security or Admin Settings.
  • If prompted, enter the admin username and password. If you don’t remember setting these, try the default credentials (e.g., username: admin, password: admin or blank).
  • Look for any locked settings related to wireless configuration and unlock them.

Restore Network Settings:

  • If you cannot access the settings, you might need to restore the printer's network settings:
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
    • Confirm the reset and then try setting up the wireless connection again.

Reconnect to Wireless Network:

  • After unlocking or resetting the network settings, reconnect the printer to your new wireless network by going to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.

Check HP Instant Ink Enrollment:

  • Make sure the printer is connected to the internet so that it can communicate with HP Instant Ink service. Your subscription should not be affected as long as the printer stays connected.

This should help you regain access to the wireless settings and connect your printer to your new network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
