Hi @South40k,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The "Attention needed" error on your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer typically indicates a problem like a jammed paper, low ink, or a missing cartridge.

Please perform a Hard reset and firmware update on the printer, and let us know how it goes.

Please remove the Cartridges from the Printer if possible and try a Hard Reset. Do keep us posted to help you better

** Hard reset:

1. Turn the printer on if it is not already on.

2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

8. Turn on the printer if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

HP Smart App: Please uninstall the HP Smart app --> restart the Device, Wi-Fi router and printer, --> reinstall it back and add the printer.

HP Firmware Update: Please update the Firmware from the link. This will help to update the firmware on the printer or devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the reply. I'm helping a friend connect her laptop and haven't had a chance to try your suggestions yet. She has a Windows 10 laptop I was able to connect without any problem and she also has 2 Windows 11 laptops that are the problem.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to try your solutions this weekend. appreciate the reply

Thanks again. I got it to print and although the printer needs attention still pops up but I think that's because the color cartridge is empty.

I see you were interacting with @VikramTheGreat however, he's away for now and I'd love to help you out

Thanks for the update! I'm really glad to hear you got the printer to print—great troubleshooting on your end. 😊

You're right—the "Printer needs attention" message often appears if the color cartridge is empty or low. As long as you're able to print and everything else looks good, it’s likely not a major concern. If you mostly print in black and white, you can also adjust the settings to print using black ink only to bypass the color cartridge warning.

Feel free to reach out if the issue pops up again or if we can help further. Take care and happy printing!

Best,
