HP LaserJet Pro P1109w Printer

I was able to print many times from my new iMac (Sequoia OS 15.3.2), which I've had since 12/2024. Today it didn't work. When I bought it, it was able to connect to the HP printer right away, without any problem. Didn't need to install any driver.

I searched for troubleshooting and one suggestion was to remove the printer from the settings on the new iMac and reinstall it. But when I removed it, now there's no HP driver! I searched the HP website and downloaded the most recent, but it is too new for my iMac. Now there's no printer listed in the "Printers & Scanners" settings.

I've been able to print from my old iMac (running Mac OS 10.10.5) for YEARS. So I next tried using that to print today's document, but got an error message: “The printer may not exist or is unavailable at this time".

I've also been able to print from my iPhone (iOS 18.3.2) and my iPad (iPad OS 18.3.2). Today it doesn't work on either device. Error: "No AirPrint Printers Found".

I need to print! I can't print from ANY of my devices.

Perhaps my printer is no longer connected to my Wifi? How do I reconnect it? I downloaded the HP Smart app (onto my iPhone), the first instruction is "Go to your Wi-Fi settings on this device and select "HP-Setup" from the Wi-Fi network list. There is no such choice in the Wi-Fi network list.

Now what??

I found the USB cable that came with the HP printer and hooked that up and can now print from my old iMac so I was able to print the important document I needed today, but I STILL want to be able to print wirelessly -- from all devices.

@Shack818, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing difficulties connecting your HP LaserJet Pro P1109w printer to your iMac running macOS Sequoia OS 15.3.2. It appears that the printer was previously functioning correctly but is now unresponsive across all your devices. Let's work through the following steps to resolve the issue:

Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode:

Ensure the printer is powered on.

Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer's control panel until the wireless light blinks (this may take about 3 seconds).

Wait for approximately 60 seconds until the wireless light blinks blue, indicating the printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode.

Within two hours, use the HP Smart app or your Mac's Printers & Scanners settings to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Reinstall Printer Drivers on macOS Sequoia OS 15.3.2:

It seems that the standard drivers may not be compatible with your current macOS version. To address this:

Download the HP Easy Start installer from HP's official website.

Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the necessary drivers.

During installation, select your HP LaserJet Pro P1109w printer to ensure the correct drivers are installed.

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi Using the HP Smart App:

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for trying, but no, your response did not help.

First, I pressed and held the Wireless button on the printer for way longer than 3 seconds and the light never lit. But when I let go of the button, the blue light did start flashing.

Next, I searched and searched the HP site and can't locate anything called "HP Easy Start Installer". Can you provide a link to it?

When I go on the HP site to "Software and Drivers", I'm instructed to "Select your product type". I chose "Printer" and entered my product "HP LaserJet Pro p1109w"... but then I see "Detected operating system: None" and when I try manually selecting a different operating system, the newest OS in the list is 10.14. My iMac's OS is 15.3.2.

When I try to connect the printer to the Wi-Fi... using the Mac's settings... or the HP Smart app... neither of those work. My printer can't be located by them.

So... the rest of what you wrote as a solution doesn't help me. If you have any clarification, let me know.

When I did a Google search for "HP Easy Start Installer", I did find a page on the HP site that has "Easy Start" software, but it only offers Windows in the menu, not Mac.

As I mentioned, I used to be able to print from my iPhone and iPad and old iMac (running OS 10.10.5). I can no longer print from those devices either. The only way I was able to print is to connect the USB cable from the old iMac to the printer. Temporarily useful. But my goal is to transition to no longer using the old iMac.

And I do want to be able to print from my iPhone and iPad.

Still searching for a solution that works for me.

Hey @Shack818,

thank you for your response; let's try these steps:

Restore Printer to Wi-Fi Setup Mode (Confirm This Worked)

You did great testing the Wireless button—that’s the right instinct.

Make sure the printer is powered on.

Press and release the Wireless button (don’t hold it)—if the blue light starts blinking, you’ve entered Wi-Fi Setup Mode.
This blinking light means it’s ready to connect to a Wi-Fi network again.

If the blue light never starts blinking: unplug the printer, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and try again.

Use HP Smart App on iPhone/iPad to Connect to Wi-Fi

Now that the printer is blinking and in setup mode, let's use your iPhone or iPad (whichever you prefer) to reconnect it to Wi-Fi.

Open Settings > Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad.

Wait about 30–60 seconds and look for a new Wi-Fi network named HP-Setup-### (e.g., HP-Setup-P1109w or something similar).

If you see it, connect to it. The iPhone might say “No Internet”—that’s okay.

Once connected, open the HP Smart app.

Tap Add Printer > It should show your LaserJet Pro P1109w in setup mode.

Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your home Wi-Fi network (you’ll need to enter your Wi-Fi password).

If HP-Setup doesn’t show up as a network, it's likely the printer isn’t truly in setup mode. In that case, we’ll try the USB method to reconnect it to Wi-Fi (see Step below).

Also, refer to this guide: HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi Using Old iMac + USB Cable

Since your old iMac can still talk to the printer via USB, we can use that as a fallback to reconfigure Wi-Fi.

Refer to this guide: HP printer setup (USB cable) | HP® Support

Add the Printer to Your New iMac (macOS Sequoia 15.3.2)

Once the printer is back on Wi-Fi, your new iMac should be able to find it.

On the new iMac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

Click the “+” to add a new printer.

Look for HP LaserJet Pro P1109w under Nearby printers or Bonjour.

If it appears, select it. macOS will use its built-in AirPrint driver — no need for the old HP software.

If it doesn’t show up, check if your iMac is on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer. Reboot both the printer and the iMac if needed.

Add the Printer Back on iPhone/iPad

Now that it’s back on Wi-Fi:

On iPhone or iPad, go to the document or app you want to print from.

Tap Share > Print.

Your HP printer should appear in the list as “HP LaserJet Pro P1109w” via AirPrint.

If it doesn’t show up:

Make sure your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi as the printer.

Reboot the phone or the router and try again.

Bonus: No HP Easy Start for macOS Sequoia?

MacOS uses AirPrint, which doesn't need any HP drivers at all for basic printing.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks again for trying to help.

No success.

I can get the blue light to start blinking.

But then...

I waited many more than 60 seconds. That wi-fi network "HP-Setup-### (e.g., HP-Setup-P1109w or something similar)" never appears. I tried on both my iPhone and iPad.

That guide "HP printer setup (USB cable)" tells me to remove the printer from the Printers & Scanner settings and download the HP Smart app… but my old iMac runs on OS 10.10.5 and the HP Smart app won’t install on that system. (I can’t upgrade the system to any higher than that on this iMac. That’s one of the reasons I got the new iMac.)

So I'm back at square one. If I could get the wi-fi network "HP-Setup..." to appear in the list on my iPhone or iPad, I'd be able to follow the rest of your instructions, but since it never appears... I'm stuck. I've only gotten as far as having the blue light blinking on the printer.

Do I need to restart the modem? (I'd hate to have to do that since it takes a while to come back and I have work to do, but I will if necessary.)

Hi @Shack818,

Thank you for the response.

Since @Garp_senchau is not available at the moment, I'll be assisting you further

Make Sure the Printer is Actually in Setup Mode

Sometimes the blue light blinks even when it’s not broadcasting the HP-Setup Wi-Fi correctly.

Let’s reset the wireless settings completely first:

Wireless Reset (Works for most HP models):

Turn the printer on

Press and hold the Wireless Button + Cancel Button together for 5–10 seconds.

On some models: Wireless + Black Copy or Wireless + Power.

Wait for the wireless light to start blinking rapidly.

This forces it into true Wi-Fi setup mode, and re-broadcasts the HP-Setup-xxxx network.

Give it 30–60 seconds and check again on iPhone or iPad → Wi-Fi list → look for HP-Setup-[model].

Try Closer to the Printer

Sometimes the setup Wi-Fi signal is super weak and only visible if you’re right next to the printer.

Go close with your iPhone or iPad (like 1 foot away)

Wait 30–60 seconds on the Wi-Fi list (don’t refresh too fast)

Toggle Wi-Fi off/on on iPhone to force a scan

Try Restarting the Printer + Modem (But Not at the Same Time)

No need to restart modem unless you absolutely have to. Try this first:

Power off printer completely

Unplug modem/router for 10 seconds and plug back in

Once Wi-Fi is stable, power on the printer and repeat the reset steps

This refreshes your network and might help the printer’s setup signal stand out.

I hope this helps.

This is so frustrating!

Thanks for your additional help, but unfortunately it still didn't work for me.

My printer has the Wireless Button + Cancel Button. I turned the printer on. I pressed those buttons together for 5-10 seconds. What I got was the printer printed "Self Test / Device Configuration" pages.

I tried again.

Eventually -- but I don't know how -- I got the blue wireless light to start blinking. I don't know if it was blinking "rapidly". It was blinking the same as it had before -- one blink every second.

I don't know if it was forced "into true Wi-Fi setup mode". Whatever this blinking meant, I don't think it helped.

I gave it "30-60 seconds" and checked again on my iPhone for the "HP-Setup-[model}" in the Wi-Fi list and it did not ever appear. I had my iPhone within 6 inches of the printer. I also tried placing the phone directly on the top of the printer. Neither of these had any effect.

I toggled Wi-Fi off/on on the iPhone as you suggested. I can't seem to get that to appear in my Wi-Fi list no matter what I do.

I restarted the printer. I restarted the modem. I followed your instructions as clearly as I could.

All I can do is try again at a different time. For now, I've been plugging in the USB cable and printing from my old iMac. That's the only way I can print. The printer clearly works. It prints. It just won't print wirelessly like it used to for years.
