Hello,

When you change your Wi-Fi network name (SSID), the HP Color LaserJet 3201 won’t reconnect automatically because it still stores the old SSID and credentials in its wireless configuration.
If the printer refuses to add the new network, it usually means the old profile is still active or the network interface is locked in Auto-Reconnect mode.

Here’s the correct recovery and re-setup procedure:

1. Restore wireless settings on the printer

You need to clear the saved network so it’s ready to join the new one.

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Network or Wireless settings.

  2. Select Restore Network Defaults (it might be under Setup → Network Setup → Restore Network Settings).

  3. Confirm the reset.

  4. Wait about 60 seconds — the wireless light will blink, indicating it’s ready for setup.

(If the printer has no display panel, press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel (X) button together for about 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi LED starts blinking. That performs the same reset.)

2. Reconnect the printer to the new Wi-Fi network

You can do this in either of two ways:

Option A: HP Smart app (recommended)

  1. On your phone or PC, open HP Smart.

  2. Remove the old printer entry (if present).

  3. Click + Add Printer.

  4. The app will detect the printer in Setup Mode (Wi-Fi light blinking).

  5. Follow prompts to select your new network name and enter the password.

  6. Once configured, the Wi-Fi light turns solid and the printer reconnects.

Option B: Using the printer’s control panel
If your Color LaserJet 3201 has a small touchscreen:

  1. Go to Network Setup → Wireless Setup Wizard.

  2. It will scan for available networks.

  3. Select your new SSID and enter the password.

  4. Confirm and wait for connection success message.

3. Verify connection

  • Print a Network Configuration Page (found under Reports or Network Setup).

  • Ensure “Connected” appears with the correct SSID and an IP address assigned.

Then, on your computer or phone, you can re-add the printer:

  • On Windows: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device.

  • On Android/iOS: Re-add in HP Smart.

If the printer still refuses to show available networks or the setup fails immediately, that indicates the wireless module is locked in “setup locked” state (rare but known on this model after network name changes). The only fix for that condition is a firmware reload via USB, which resets the network stack.
