Recently I paid for HP online support to help install my printer.  The issue was resolved.  However, everytime I close out HP Smart, I get two popup HP Remote Support Windows and I can't seem to delete them; I couldn't locate them in programs; it seems to be attached to HP Smart in some way; I did remove HP Smart and reinstall it, but the same problem exists.

Thanks to your help I think I solved the problem.  I left the appelets open and attached them to the task bar after start-up; then I went to Task Manager as you suggested.  This time I saw the applets ilisted in startup. I tried to delete them, and I was told the files were still open so I had to close the applets down; then I was able to delete them.

Hi @gritzle75,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must be to keep seeing those HP Remote Support popups even after reinstalling HP Smart. You’ve already taken some good steps, so let’s work together to narrow this down.

Could you please share the model of your laptop  and confirm whether you’re using Windows 10 or Windows 11

Here are a few steps you can try in the meantime:

  • Check Startup Programs:
    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    2. Go to the Startup tab.
    3. Look for any HP-related entries (like HP Remote Support or HP Smart) and disable them.
  • Services Cleanup:
    1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
    2. Look for any HP Remote Support services.
    3. If found, right-click → Stop, then set Startup type to Disabled.

I hope this helps.

I have Windows 11; I checked Task Manager and there is no Startup tab; there is just a tab that says Start and it is empty.

I contacted HP paid support; my printer wouldn't work.  Eventually they had to run Windows 11 repair and then reinstall it.  These remote support windows popped up after this problem was fixed.  Does this info help?

Windows+R brings up a window for me to use remote access.

Thanks for the help so far.

Hi @gritzle75,

Thanks for your response and Thank you for sharing those details with us. Based on what you’ve described, it sounds like the HP Remote Support Applet may still be running as a background service even after HP Smart was closed. Let’s go through a few steps to help you remove or disable it:

  1. Check Services
    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • In the Services window, look for anything related to HP Remote Support or HP Applet.
    • If found, right-click → Stop, then set Startup type to Disabled.
  2. Check Installed Programs
    • Open SettingsAppsInstalled apps.
    • Scroll through the list for any HP Remote Support or HP-related utilities.
    • Select it and choose Uninstall.
  3. Check Task Scheduler
    • Press Windows + R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter.
    • Expand Task Scheduler Library and look for HP-related scheduled tasks.
    • If you find one for Remote Support, right-click and Disable or Delete.
  4. Startup Apps
    • Even though you mentioned the Startup tab appears empty, double-check via SettingsAppsStartup.
    • If HP Remote Support is listed, toggle it off.

I hope this helps.

Hi @gritzle75,

Thanks for your response and thank you for following up with us! I’m glad to hear you were able to resolve the issue with the HP Remote Support Applet. It sounds like you took the right steps by keeping the applets visible, attaching them to the taskbar, and then closing them before removing them from the startup list in Task Manager.

For future reference, here are a few tips that can help prevent similar issues:

  • Check Startup Programs: Task Manager’s Startup tab is the best place to manage which applications launch automatically.
  • Close Applications First: As you noticed, programs must be closed before they can be disabled or removed from startup.
  • Restart After Changes: A quick restart ensures the changes take effect and confirms the applets won’t reappear.

If you encounter any further difficulties with HP Smart or related components, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always here to help make sure your system runs smoothly.

I hope this helps.
