Hi @Ray1902

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your Dell Inspiron 15 laptop was able to connect to your HP Envy Inspire 7900e printer before, but now the connection has stopped working. This kind of issue can happen due to various reasons such as network problems, driver issues, or changes in your printer or laptop’s settings. Let’s walk through some steps to troubleshoot the issue and get your printer reconnected.

Step 1: Restart Both Devices (Laptop and Printer)

First, let’s restart both your Dell laptop and the HP Envy 7900e printer to rule out any temporary glitches:

  • Turn off your laptop and then power it back on.
  • Turn off the printer, wait for about 10-15 seconds, and then turn it back on.

Step 2: Check the Wi-Fi Connection

Make sure both your Dell laptop and HP Envy 7900e printer are on the same Wi-Fi network:

  1. Check Wi-Fi on your Dell laptop:
    • Click the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right corner of the screen (in the taskbar).
    • Ensure you’re connected to the correct Wi-Fi network (the same network that the printer is connected to).
  2. Check Wi-Fi on your HP Envy printer:
    • On your printer’s control panel, go to Settings or Wireless Settings.
    • Check that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop. If it’s not, reconnect it by running the Wireless Setup Wizard:
      • Go to Settings > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer.
      • Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

If the Wi-Fi connection seems fine, move on to the next step.

Step 3: Reconnect Printer on the Laptop (Reinstall Printer)

It’s possible that the connection between your Dell laptop and HP Envy 7900e printer was lost due to a change in settings, or the printer needs to be reinstalled.

  1. Remove the printer from your laptop:
    • Go to Settings on your Dell laptop.
    • Click on Devices (Bluetooth & Devices).
    • Under Printers & Scanners, find your HP Envy 7900e printer, click on it, and select Remove device.
  2. Add the printer again:
    • Go back to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Click on Add a printer or scanner.
    • Your laptop should search for available printers. Select your HP Envy 7900e from the list and click Add device.
    • If it doesn’t appear, click on The printer that I want isn’t listed and select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname if you know the printer's IP address.

Step 4: Update Printer Drivers

An outdated or corrupted driver can sometimes cause connection issues.

  1. Go to HP’s official support page: HP Support.
  2. Search for your HP Envy Inspire 7900e printer model.
  3. Download the latest drivers for your printer that are compatible with Windows 10/11.
  4. Install the updated drivers and check if the printer reconnects.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
