HP DeskJet Plus Ink Advantage 6475

Hello all, I got an HP DeskJet Plus Ink Advantage 6475 that was being used in another home and trying to connect it to my home Wifi. I am using the HP Smart app on two Windows laptops (one Windows 10 and one Windows 11), but the setup keeps failing at the "Sending network information" stage. I have reset the network, tried WPS (which seems to succeed but the printer still does not show on the network), and also reinstalled the HP Smart apps and disabled the antivirus and Windows Defender.

I also tried the Android HP Smart app, but in this case, the app did not even find the printer and completely failed the setup. I also tried to hard reset the printer (printer off, cartridge lid open and press the power and wifi button for 5 seconds) but it did not seem to do anything. USB cable also failed, Windows did not recognize
it as a printer.

Any tips on how to connect it please?

Hi @StefanVB,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble setting up your HP DeskJet Plus Ink Advantage 6475 on your home Wi-Fi network. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to help you get it connected.

  1. Verify Wi-Fi Network Information:

    • Make sure that you have the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password (security key). Double-check for any typos or errors.
  2. Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi Manually:

    • On your printer's control panel, navigate to the Wi-Fi setup option.
    • Manually enter your Wi-Fi network name and password using the control panel.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  3. Printer and Router Proximity:

    • Ensure that the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router. If the signal is weak, the printer may have trouble connecting.
  4. Update Firmware:

    • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve connectivity issues. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website.
  5. Reboot Your Router:

    • Turn off your Wi-Fi router, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
  6. WPS Setup:

    • If you prefer using WPS, make sure you follow the steps correctly. Typically, you need to press the WPS button on your router and then on the printer within a certain time frame. Refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions.
  7. Check for MAC Address Filtering:

    • Ensure that your router is not using MAC address filtering, which can block devices from connecting to the network.
  8. Firewall and Security Software:

    • Ensure that your firewall or security software is not blocking the printer's connection. You mentioned disabling antivirus and Windows Defender, which is a good step. Ensure your firewall settings are not preventing the printer from connecting.
  9. Printer Reset:

    • You've mentioned trying a hard reset. If that didn't work, try performing a factory reset on the printer, which should clear all previous settings.
    • To perform a factory reset, refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions.
  10. HP Print and Scan Doctor:

    • Download and run the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" utility from the HP website. This tool can help diagnose and resolve common printer issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden and thanks for the reply.

I have checked all the points you mentioned.

1- Wifi SSID and password are correct, HP Smart just fails when sending the network data.

2- I cannot connect the printer manually, it is the Ink Advantage 6475, has no screen, just a couple of buttons.

3- The printer, laptop and router are within 2 meters distance

4- I cannot update the firmware unless I manage to connect the printer to my PC/laptop

5- Rounter has been restarted multiple times

6- I tried connecting via WPS, according to the indicator lights on the printer it seems to connect but it still not on the network and cannot be connected to any laptop or smartphone

7-  MAC address filtering is off on the router

8- Firewall has been switched off as well

9- Factory reset procedure done to no avail

10- Seems like this software only works with printers that are already connected.

This is really annoying. I feel that connecting a printer should be one of the easiest things one can do and here we are, me, an IT professional not able to connect a simple desktop printer because HP decided that a screen and built-in settings was too much for these printers. This is not a super cheap printer,  I was expecting much much more.
