Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed a new gateway yesterday and my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 will not connect to wireless. I finally got a person to talk to at Comcast and the gentleman had me try a bunch of things to no avail. He finally told me that my printer was to old and not compatible with the new gateway. Was this a way for him to get rid of me or is this possible? I cannot tell you how old the printer is, I am guessing seven or eight maybe older.

Hi @BenJack,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see you need help with the new wifi setup. I will surely help you with this.  The printer will only work with 2.4 Ghz frequency. You may try the steps mentioned below:

First,  Please uninstall the HP smart app.

Once done, Let's try a restore the printer to the original network settings.

To restore the printer to the original network settings

  • Disconnect the power cord from the router.
  •  Turn off the printer.
  •  Turn off the mobile device/PC.
  •  Reconnect the power cord to the router, then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.
  •  Turn on the printer.
  •  Turn on the mobile device/PC.

Run the setup wizard to get the printer connected to the new network.

  • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer control panel display to set up wireless communication.
  •  From the printer control panel, touch (Wireless).
  •  Touch ( Settings ).
  •   Touch Wireless Settings.
  •   Touch Wireless Setup Wizard.
  •   Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

Once done, Please reinstall the HP smart app, open the app, and click on add printer on top. Select your printer and follow the on-screen instructions to get your printer configured on the app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
