Hi @BEA666,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer can't connect to your new phone's Wi-Fi hotspot, here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

1. Check Hotspot Settings on Your Phone

  • Hotspot must be 2.4 GHz (many HP printers don’t support 5 GHz).
  • Set Security to WPA2 and avoid special characters in the SSID or password.
  • Make sure Mobile Data is turned on.

2. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

  • On the printer, go to:
    • Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard
  • Select your phone’s hotspot name (SSID) and enter the password.

3. Check Printer Compatibility

  • Some HP printers don’t connect well to mobile hotspots due to:
    • Limited DHCP support
    • Weak signal strength
    • Incompatibility with 5 GHz-only hotspots

4. Use HP Smart App

  • Install the HP Smart app on your phone.
  • Use it to set up the printer and connect it to the hotspot.

5. Try a Manual IP Setup (Advanced)

If the printer connects but doesn’t print:

  • Assign a static IP to the printer via the printer’s control panel.
  • Use that IP to add the printer manually on your device.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Vikram’s reply was helpful but I think I did not phrase my problem in enough detail. I’m not trying to connect my printer to a hotspot on my mobile phone .

I have moved and need to connect my HP2000 DeskJet to my new wi fi. It doesn't have a setup panel in the printer just basic buttons.
Printer has been switched off for over 4 months while in storage.

The printer will not connect to the new Wi-Fi ?
. I have downloaded the HP app but it is asking me to oay £29.99!
I have never had to pay before to use my printer?! I have ink order which I paid  for even when in storage  and used no ink!’

I’ve tried to connect my printer using my mobile phone as I always used to but it cannot find my printer as a device to connect to .

The printer comes up on my mobile as Wi-Fi  access?!

I do not  have a panel  on printer to use to connect  the basic buttons and I have followed the instructions to connect printer press wi button and cancel button . I’ve put in password for Wi-Fi and it says not accessible. I do not have a won button on my router.
I’ve checked the serial number on my printer and it says out of warranty.
Can anyone help please

Thank you

Hi @BEA666,

Thank you for letting me know,

Here's how you can reset the network settings on your HP DeskJet 2000 series printer and set it up without needing to pay. You do not need to pay £29.99 to use your printer—HP Smart is free to use for setup and printing.

1. Reset the Network Settings

To get your printer ready to connect to your new Wi-Fi:

  • Turn on the printer
  • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button on the printer together for 5 seconds
→ This will restore the network settings to the default
→ The Wireless light should start blinking — this means the printer is in Setup Mode

2. Connect Using HP Smart App (Free Version)

If the HP Smart app is asking you to pay £29.99, you've likely clicked a paid third-party ad or signed up for an optional support service. You do not need to pay to use the app or to connect your printer.

Do this:

  1. Delete any existing version of the HP Smart app.
  2. Re-download it only from the official source: HP Smart - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store
  3. Open HP Smart
  4. Tap Add Printer
  5. It should find your DeskJet 2000 with a name like HP-Setup-XXXX
  6. Tap to connect, and follow the steps to:
    • Select your Wi-Fi network
    • Enter your Wi-Fi password
    • Finish setup

📌 If it asks for location and Bluetooth access, allow both — they're needed for initial wireless setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
