Hi @ProbPrint1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When you're experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6962 printer showing "failed" and the virtual diagnostics aren't displaying correctly on the printer's screen, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Steps to Resolve Printing Issues on HP OfficeJet Pro 6962
Check Printer Connection:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If using a USB connection, try a different USB port on your computer. For wireless connection, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
Restart Printer and Computer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.
Check Ink or Toner Cartridges:
- Make sure all ink or toner cartridges are correctly installed and have sufficient ink or toner levels. Replace any empty cartridges if necessary.
Clear Print Queue:
- Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause issues. Clear the print queue:
- On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select See what's printing. Cancel all documents.
- On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Open Print Queue. Cancel any pending jobs.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer:
- Visit the HP Support website, enter your printer model (OfficeJet Pro 6962), and download the latest drivers for your operating system.
- Install the drivers following the on-screen instructions.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a diagnostic tool that can help identify and resolve printing issues automatically.
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website, run the program, and follow the prompts to diagnose and fix any detected issues.
Check Firewall and Security Software:
- Temporarily disable any firewall or security software on your computer that may be blocking communication with the printer.
Reset the Printer:
- Perform a reset on the printer to clear any temporary glitches:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings or Setup.
- Find the option to reset the printer (refer to your printer’s manual if needed).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
