Hi @FastRob ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to address the issue where your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer is unable to print due to a lack of connection to HP ink (likely related to HP Instant Ink service), try the following solutions:

1. Check HP Instant Ink Status

  • Login to HP Instant Ink: Go to the HP Instant Ink website and log in to your account. Verify that your Instant Ink subscription is active and that there are no issues with your plan or billing.
  • Ink Cartridge Detection: Ensure that your printer is correctly detecting the HP Instant Ink cartridges. Sometimes, if the cartridge is not recognized, it may prevent printing.

2. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Sometimes the printer may not recognize the cartridges correctly due to a driver issue. To reinstall the printer driver:
    • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your HP printer and click Remove Device.
    • Go to the HP Support website, search for your printer model, and download the latest drivers for Windows 10.
    • Install the downloaded driver and add the printer back to your computer.

3. Check Printer Connection to Instant Ink

  • Make sure your printer is properly connected to HP Instant Ink. Sometimes a disconnection can happen, and the printer will stop printing.
  • On the printer’s display, check the Instant Ink status to ensure it is still activated. If necessary, you can reconnect it through the printer settings by following the on-screen prompts.

4. Reset Printer and Reconnect to Network

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Network Reset: If your printer is connected via Wi-Fi, it may have trouble with Instant Ink. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network:
    • On the printer’s display, go to Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow the prompts to reconnect.

5. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer:
    • Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners, click your printer, then select Manage > Printer Properties > Update Firmware (if available).
    • Alternatively, visit the HP support website to download the latest firmware version.

6. Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP Instant Ink cartridges. If you have recently replaced the ink cartridges, they might not be properly recognized. Remove and reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they are seated correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
