I am trying to register my HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e printer with HP Web Services so I can use HP+ since I have an HP+ printer. When I tried to access the HP+ support page, I was denied any options after entering my serial number because the "Product was exchanged". I got this printer from a family member, and while I'm not sure of all the details, they basically exchanged it for another printer model or HP product but were told to not mail this printer back to HP since they bought a replacement product anyway. Since the product is marked as "exchanged" in HP's systems, its warranty was canceled and has no "start" or "end" date and I'm wondering if HP remotely disabled the printer's ability to use HP cloud services. The printer's interface has no ePrint button even though it should and when I try to print the claim code per HP's directions (by using a computer and going to the printer's IP address) the printer just won't print the Web Services Information document. The computer will say "Printing the Info Sheet" and let me know that the process could take a minute or two, but the printer never gets the signal (that I can tell), never shows the "Printing" banner it usually does when something's printing, and never produces the document.

Any help or clarification is greatly appreciated!

Hello and thanks for the reply!

It's not a defective printer as far as I can tell, however, I was told that the printer couldn't pick up paper but I haven't had that issue personally (maybe because I followed HP's directions regarding printers that can't pick up paper before I ever turned it on).

The printer was supposed to be shipped back to HP but as I stated in my post, the owners were told they didn't need to send the item back and it was something related to the fact that they had already bought another HP printer. Since they were able to keep it but didn't need it, they were kind enough to give it off to me.

Nonetheless, I ended up finding a solution to activate HP+ and get everything working properly.

Solution: While signed into my HP account in the HP Smart app for Windows, I connected the printer to the app and then went through the steps to sign up for Instant Ink. Before even completing my purchase, I got an email that the HP+ was activated on the printer and everything just started working. It was quite coincidental as I had sort of given up on figuring it out myself by then, but it does make sense considering that the documentation I've read states that HP+ printers shouldn't need a claim code if you're signed into the HP app when setting them up.
I don't see any reason why this shouldn't work on a Macintosh computer or mobile device but I was using a PC when I got it working so that's all I can definitively speak to.

All-and-all, I have my Instant Ink cartridges on the way and I'm really happy with my new-to-me HP printer! Definitely going to stick with HP for any more of my printing needs!

Thanks again!

Was this printer a replacement shipped out by HP or is this the defective one that has to be returned?
