HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer

I recently changed my wifi router from an Apple Airport Express to an Apple Airport Extreme. Of course my new network on my new router has a new name. After pressing the wifi button on the printer to make the printer available to the new network and launching my HP Smart app, the app still can't find my HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer.

Hi @Danimalman,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w is having trouble connecting to the new network after the router change. Here's a set of troubleshooting steps to help resolve this issue:

1. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  • On the printer’s control panel, press the Wi-Fi button to reset the network settings.
  • This will erase any old network settings and allow the printer to connect to the new network.
  • Once done, restart the printer.

2. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the light starts blinking.
  • The printer will now search for available networks. Select your new network from the list.
  • Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.

3. Reinstall HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app on your device.
  • If the app is not detecting the printer, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
  • After reinstalling, launch the app and check if it can now find the printer.

4. Check Router Settings

  • Ensure your router is configured to allow the printer to connect (e.g., no MAC address filtering).
  • Verify the router is broadcasting in 2.4 GHz mode, as some printers have trouble with 5 GHz networks.
  • If your new router uses a different Wi-Fi frequency band, the printer may not be able to connect. Make sure it supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

5. Use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

  • If your router and printer support WPS, you can use this method to connect them.
  • Press the WPS button on your router, then press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer for about 5 seconds.
  • The printer should connect to the new network automatically.

6. Assign a Static IP (Optional)

  • If the above steps do not work, consider assigning a static IP address to the printer through your router’s DHCP settings.
  • You can find the printer’s IP address from its menu or print a network configuration page.

7. Verify Printer Connection

  • After following the steps, verify that the printer is connected by checking the network configuration page on the printer.
  • You should also be able to print a network configuration page directly from the printer’s control panel, which will provide details about the network connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
