Hey @REJ12,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Ah, the classic router swap dilemma—it's like moving your favorite coffee shop to a new location and realizing your favorite barista is now in a different zip code! ️ But don't worry, we’ll get your HP LaserJet M209dw back on track and happily connected to your network. 🎯

Check Printer Power and Connection Status

  • Ensure the printer is turned on and is in a ready state (no error messages on the display).
  • Check the printer’s network status:
    • Print a network configuration page

Check Router Settings

  • Verify your router is functioning properly: Ensure the router is up and running, and that other devices (like a phone or laptop) can connect to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Confirm correct Wi-Fi settings: Ensure the router’s Wi-Fi settings (SSID, security type like WPA2, etc.) match what your printer needs to connect.
  • 5GHz/2.4GHz Compatibility: The HP LaserJet M209dw supports only 2.4GHz networks. Make sure your router's 5GHz band is either disabled or you're connecting to the 2.4GHz band.

Reconnect the Printer to the Network

Connect Your Printer to a Wi-Fi Network Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

This method works if your router has a WPS button. If your router doesn’t have one, you can connect your printer via the HP Smart app. Follow these steps to use WPS:

  • Ensure that your printer and router are within range of each other.
  • Activate WPS on your printer: Press and hold the Wireless button on your printer for at least 3 seconds. The Wireless light will blink, indicating that it’s in WPS mode.
  • Press the WPS button on your router: Ensure you do this within 2 minutes of starting WPS on your printer.
    • Note: The Wireless light on your printer will stop blinking and remain solid once the connection is successful.

Alternatively, you can use HP Smart App on your computer or smartphone to guide you through the wireless setup.

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Add your printer: In the HP Smart app, click or tap the Plus icon (or select "Add Printer") and follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer to the network.
  • Register the printer: When prompted, create an HP account and complete the printer registration.

Check for IP Conflicts

  • Print a Configuration Page to see the printer’s IP address.
  • On your router’s admin page (accessed through the router’s IP), check the DHCP client list and ensure there is no IP conflict between the printer and other devices.

Reset Network Settings on Printer

Reset the printer's network settings to default and try setting it up again.

  • Press and hold (the Information button) for 3 seconds and then release the button. All control panel buttons will light up.
  • Press and hold (the Wireless button) and (the Cancel button). The printer restarts and, depending on your printer model, the Status light pulses purple or the Wireless button starts blinking blue. This indicates that the printer is in wireless setup mode. You can now set up a wireless connection between the printer and your device
  • After resetting, go through the wireless setup again.

Check Firewall and Security Settings

  • Firewall blocking: Ensure that no security software or router firewall is blocking the printer's connection.
  • Router Configuration: Ensure that settings like MAC address filtering, DHCP reservations, or any other security features are not preventing the printer from connecting.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure the printer has the latest firmware version. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve connectivity issues:
    • Check the current firmware version through the printer’s settings or print a configuration page.
    • Visit the HP support site and search for your printer model to download the latest firmware version.

Use WPS for Setup (If Supported by Router)

If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can try connecting the printer via WPS:

  • On the printer, press the Wireless button (on the front panel).
  • Hold the WPS button on your router for a few seconds (usually indicated by a button with a two-arrow symbol).
  • The printer should automatically connect to the router using WPS.

Manually Set IP Address

If the printer is not automatically getting an IP address:

  • Assign a static IP address to the printer.
  • Access the printer’s control panel > Network > Manual IP Setup.
  • Enter an IP address that is in the same subnet as your router and ensure it does not conflict with other devices on your network.

Reinstall Printer on Computer

After connecting the printer to the Wi-Fi network, you may need to reinstall the printer on your computer:

  • Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add Printer, and search for your printer on the network.
  • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Add Printer, and search for the printer.

Try Using a USB Cable for Setup

If network connection issues persist, you can also temporarily connect the printer via USB to your computer and use HP’s software to configure wireless settings directly.

Test Printer Connection

  • Once connected, print a test page from your computer to ensure that the printer is working properly over the network.

There you go! With those tweaks, your printer should be happily chatting with your network again. If it’s still giving you the silent treatment, don’t hesitate to reach out—because even printers deserve a second chance at a good connection.
