Microsoft Windows 11

As of today, both of my computers (Dell desktop & HP laptop) running Windows 11 refuse to connect to my printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 8630). I had no issues printing from both computers yesterday! I have downloaded and installed all Microsoft updates, run all of the troubleshooting and diagnostics (HP Smart and HP Print & Scan Doctor), turned my printer and computers off and on again, unplugged/replugged printer and computers, uninstalled/reinstalled the printer driver (HP Officejet Pro 8630 Basic Device Software), run the printer set up as a wireless connection (Add Device > manually with Host Name and IP Address), my printer is connected to the same network/wifi as both of my computers and the blue wireless light is on solid, read multiple articles on troubleshooting and possible fixes to this issue. I've tried just about everything. What is going on? Is this a Microsoft or Hewlett Packard issue?

Hi @RBSpokane,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've covered a lot of the common troubleshooting steps already. Since your printer was working fine yesterday and now isn't connecting, the issue might be due to a recent change or conflict.

Here are a few additional steps to consider:

Check Printer Status and Queue:

  • Make sure the printer is set as the default printer on both computers.
  • Go to Devices and Printers on each computer and check if the printer is showing as offline or has any print jobs stuck in the queue. If there are stuck jobs, clear them.

Verify Printer IP Address:

  • Ensure that the IP address of the printer hasn’t changed. Sometimes routers assign new IP addresses to devices, which can cause connection issues. You can print a network configuration page from the printer’s menu to confirm the IP address.

Firewall/Security Software:

  • Check if any firewall or security software on your computers is blocking the printer connection. Try temporarily disabling them to see if that resolves the issue.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure the printer’s firmware is up to date. You can usually check for firmware updates through the printer’s control panel or the HP website.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Remove the printer from both computers, restart them, and then reinstall the printer using the latest driver from the HP website.

Network Configuration:

  • Confirm that there are no network issues by connecting the printer to the network again. If possible, try connecting the printer to a different network to see if the issue persists.

HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app and try to add the printer again. Sometimes the app can provide additional insights or configurations that are not available through the standard Windows printer setup.

Windows Update Issues:

  • Sometimes, recent Windows updates can cause unexpected issues. Check the Windows Update history to see if any recent updates might be causing the problem and consider rolling them back if possible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
