Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I bought a new WiFi router and am trying to connect my HP Envy 6458e printer to the new network using the HP smart app on a Windows 11 PC. I have searched the forums and found other threads on the same topic with conflicting answers, for example:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Wireless-Networking-Internet/Adding-my-printer-to-a-new-WiFI-n...

I cannot find any straightforward option to connect to a new WiFi network within the HP smart app, nor can I find an easy way to remove the printer. It just lists the printer and says that it's offline.

This is mildly infuriating to say the least. Can someone provide accurate instructions to do this that work in 2024? Thank you!

Hi @bfin1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP Envy 6458e printer to a new WiFi network using the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 PC, follow these steps.

Prepare the Printer for WiFi Setup

  1. Turn on the printer and make sure it is in a ready state.
  2. Reset the Network Settings:
    • On the printer’s control panel, touch the Wireless icon or go to the Network menu.
    • Navigate to Settings > Restore Network Settings or Restore Network Defaults.
    • Confirm the reset.

Install the HP Smart App (if not already installed)

  1. Go to the Microsoft Store on your Windows 11 PC.
  2. Search for HP Smart and install the app.

Connect the Printer to the New WiFi Network

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 PC.
  2. If your printer is listed as offline, remove the printer:
    • Click on your printer in the HP Smart app.
    • Click on Printer Settings.
    • Scroll down and click on Remove Printer.
  3. Add the Printer Again:
    • Click on the Plus (+) icon to add a new printer.
    • Select Set Up a New Printer.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the new WiFi network:
    • Ensure your PC is connected to the same WiFi network you want the printer to connect to.
    • The app will search for the printer. Follow the prompts to select your printer and connect it to the WiFi network.

Complete the Setup

  1. Once the printer is connected to the new WiFi network, the HP Smart app should indicate that the printer is online.
  2. Print a test page to ensure the connection is successful.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Ensure your PC and printer are on the same WiFi network during the setup process.
  • If the printer is not found, make sure it is within range of the WiFi router and try restarting both the printer and the router.
  • Disable any VPN or firewall temporarily to avoid connectivity issues during the setup.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully connect your HP Envy 6458e printer to your new WiFi network using the HP Smart app on a Windows 11 PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi - I was able to figure this out by completely uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app. However, previously I was unable to follow the steps in your solution because there was no "remove printer" option when I clicked on the printer. Here are the steps I can take now that I have the app and printer reinstalled:

1. Open the HP Smart app.

2. Click on the printer.

3. This opens a page with a menu on the left for top-level menu items: Status, Information, Settings, Tools, and Manage. Settings has two clickable options under it - Privacy Preferences and Advanced Settings.

4. If I click on Advanced Settings, this brings me to a new page with a menu across the top with options Home, Scan, Web Services, Network, Tools, Settings.

5. I clicked on Settings and clicked through all the menu options there, and nowhere do I see an option to "remove printer."

So, I am unable to follow the steps you described:

  1. If your printer is listed as offline, remove the printer:
    • Click on your printer in the HP Smart app.
    • Click on Printer Settings.
    • Scroll down and click on Remove Printer.

For the sake of other people reading this thread in the future, it would probably help if you could clarify where you can actually find the "remove printer" option in the HP Smart app. As I described in my previous reply, I do not see the option anywhere when I follow the steps you gave.

For anyone reading this in the future, the private message referenced above just told me to call them because they were unable to resolve the issue here. I have no idea why a very basic question about using their software cannot be answered in the forums. If I could start over I would not purchase an HP printer.

I have told my wife on numerous occasions that I am ready to go Office Space on our printer. There is a local print shop near us that charges 10 cents per page. Honestly I'm not convinced that the hassle of owning and maintaining your own printer (and paying the outrageous prices for ink, whatever the cost per page winds up being) is worth it, vs just paying somebody else to print things for you and having them deal with all the hassle and maintenance.

So lame....I dd the same just now and its infuriating. I am now resetting the printer and starting all over again.
