Hi @MSHK,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting an error 6 on an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw (or similar printers) often relates to network setup or connection issues. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this:

1. Verify Printer and Network Setup

  • Ensure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router.
  • Confirm that the Wi-Fi network is operational and the password is correct.
  • Make sure the router's 2.4 GHz band is enabled, as many HP printers do not support 5 GHz networks.

2. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

Resetting network settings can clear any misconfigurations.

  1. On the printer control panel, navigate to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset. The printer should restart.

3. Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

Using the printer control panel:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password carefully.

4. Use HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server  Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • Download and install the HP Smart App on your computer or smartphone.
  • Use the app to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.
  • Alternatively, connect to the printer via its default Wi-Fi Direct network, access its Embedded Web Server (EWS) at 192.168.223.1, and configure Wi-Fi under the Network tab.

5. Check Router Settings

Some router settings might block the printer from connecting:

  • Ensure the router does not have MAC address filtering enabled.
  • Disable AP Isolation if it’s turned on.
  • Assign a static IP address to the printer in your router’s admin console.

6. Perform a Cold Reset (if needed)

If the issue persists, perform a cold reset:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Hold the Cancel and Right Arrow buttons.
  3. Turn the printer back on while holding the buttons until a message appears on the screen.
  4. Release the buttons and select Cold Reset.

7. Manually Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Outdated firmware can also cause connectivity problems.

  1. Download the latest firmware for the printer from the HP Support Website.
  2. Install it using a USB connection to a computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
