I just got a used printer and would like to set it up to print wirelessly from my computer and phone. I have tried using the HP Smart app, but it can't find the printer. Bluetooth and Location Services are on. I have tried both my Mac (Sonoma 14.3.1) and my iPhone 13. They both get to the point of telling me to connect to the HP-Setup-... in the Wi-Fi network list, but that never shows up.
I have also tried from the printer by clicking Wireless > Wireless Settings > Wi-Fi Protected Setup > PIN. It gives me a pin and says to type it into my router configuration page, but when I go there, the page tells me to log into my app, and there is no place to put in a pin number. Possibly I am not going to the right place? Is the router configuration page the router number (ex. 198.xxx.x.x)?
Our router does not have a WPS button, so that is not an option.
Help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi @ofpac7y3 ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are not able to connect the printer to the network. Follow the steps mentioned in this document - Connecting an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
- Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
- This printer supports WPA encryption. Check if the router supports the same.
- Also, the printer cannot be connected to a guest/university network. It has to be a personal router.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @ofpac7y3,
Thank you for your response.you may try this.
- Traditional wireless connection (requires router)
To connect the HP All-in-One to an integrated wireless WLAN 802.11 network, you will need the following:
A wireless 802.11b/g/n network that includes a wireless router or access point.
NOTE: 802.11n will only support 2.4Ghz
A desktop computer or laptop with either wireless networking support, or a network interface card (NIC). The computer
must be connected to the wireless network that you intend to install the HP All-in-One on.
Network name (SSID).
WEP key or WPA Passphrase (if needed).
To connect the product
1. Insert the product Software CD in the computer CD-ROM drive.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
When you are prompted, connect the product to the computer using the USB setup cable included in the box. Follow the
onscreen prompts to enter your wireless network settings. The product will attempt to connect to the network. If the
connection fails, follow the prompts to correct the problem, and then try again.
3. When the setup is finished, you will be prompted to disconnect the USB cable and test the wireless network connection.
Once the product connects successfully to the network, install the software on each computer that will use the product over
the network

Hi @ofpac7y3,
Thank you for the response, Please try the alternate methods:
It sounds like you're experiencing a few challenges in connecting your used HP printer to your Wi-Fi network, especially without access to a WPS button on your router. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you set up your printer for wireless printing, covering a few different methods you might not have tried yet:
1. Manual Connection via Printer's Control Panel
If your printer has a touchscreen, you might be able to manually select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password directly on the printer:
- Navigate to the Wi-Fi settings through the printer's control panel.
- Look for an option that says something like "Wireless Setup Wizard" or "Network Setup."
- The printer will search for available networks. Select your home network from the list.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.
2. HP Smart App (Troubleshooting)
Since the HP Smart app couldn't find your printer, ensure your printer is in setup mode, which makes it discoverable. Printers not in setup mode might not appear. If your printer has been used before, you might need to restore it to factory settings to re-enter setup mode. Consult your printer's manual for instructions on resetting it.
3. Connecting Through a Computer
If you have a computer with a CD drive, you might have received a CD with your printer that contains software for the setup. If not, you can download the software from HP's official website.
- On your computer, install the HP printer software.
- During installation, it should prompt you to choose a connection type. Select the "Wireless" option.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
4. Router Configuration Page
Regarding the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) PIN method, the router configuration page is indeed accessed through a web browser by typing in the router's IP address (it looks like "192.xxx.x.x"). However, not all routers support the PIN method of WPS.
- Make sure you're accessing your router's admin page. This typically requires a username and password (often found on the router itself if you haven't changed them).
- Once logged in, look for the WPS settings. If you don't see an option to enter a PIN, your router may not support this feature.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
