HP Envy Photo 6230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since I am using A DECO TP-Link router, my HP Envy Photo 6230 will not connect to the WiFi.

When run the setup from my laptop with HP Smart, it will connect with the printer, asking for my wifi password.

After that it will find my printer, configure the printer. But it can't get the printer address. (can not connect to the network).

I have reset my network on the printer, but no results so far.

Is this a known issue? I would like to use my printer again!

Kind regards.

John

@JohnKriele, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to connect the printer to the wireless network.

This printer supports WPS encryption. Check if the router has the same encryption. Restart the router and the printer.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
  • Check if MAC address filtering is enabled on the router. If yes, disable the same.

Use the WPS method to connect the printer, refer to - Connecting an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello,

I am facing the same issue when connecting to my tplink deco X90. The deco has the same SSID for 5 and 2.4 GHz and there is no way to change it. What I did was to configure the guest network as 2.4GHz only and I am getting the same error when connecting. When you select the SSID on the panel it shows the SSID and Security:No Encryption. The wireless setup is set to secure using WPA2-PSK[AES], which is the setup of my other wireless network.

I am not sure if this is related to the deco being a Wifi 6?

Thanks for the help.

Kind Regards,

Andres.

@Andrew024, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • If both the networks have the same SSID, there will be connectivity issues.
  • You may check with your Internet service provider to change the SSID
  • This printer supports WPA encryption, check if the router is on the same encryption method. If using WEP or WPA-PSK+FT change it to WPA-PSK

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Hello,

I do have access to manage the mesh network. I have setup the guest network as 2.4GHz only with a unique SSID, therefore there is no overlap of network SSIDs and network frequency.

The security is set to WPA2-PSK [AES]

@Andrew024

Are you not able to connect the printer to the 2.4GHz network?

If not, change the security to WPA-PSK and check if that helps.

Keep me posted.

Hi,

It is solved. At the end of the day it was not about having the same SSID in different bands, but the security type. I changed to WPA-PSA[TKIP] and the printer was able to connect even with both bands using the same SSID.

Thanks for your help.
