Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Officejet 8610 Pro

My Fios Geteway Router updated its firmware to have automatic channel-switching enabled on Wi-Fi connections. From what the tech told me, this switches not only the frequency of the connection (from 2.4 to 5GHZ), but the sub-channels associated with each.

My Officejet wouldn't connect with this feature turned on, but does now that I've disabled it on the router.

My question is, since my network was working better with the channel-switching, are there any firmware upgrades or settings to allow the 8600 to connect with this router feature on?

As an aside, I ran the printer's wireless diagnostics when it wouldn't connect and it came up with a MAC filtering issue. That is not correct, the router has the Mac filtering disabled.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I could notice many Verison users reporting similar behavior with SON enabled since the latest router change, while could previously connect to the network with SON enabled, till a recent router update provided by Verizon.

I suggest trying and disabling SON and check for any difference, see 'Do I have the ability to turn SON off?':

https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/equipment/network-extender/son

For any further help, I suggest checking with Verizon, why the printer fails to connect with SON enabled since their latest updates.

Hi, thanks for the response.

That was kind of the question. I’ve already figured out that the problem with the HP wireless connection was the automatic channel switching; and unfortunately, this setting makes all the other devices on my network connect better. I was wondering if there were any settings or firmware updates for my printer to allow it to connect with the switching enabled.

Hi,

I suggest checking with Verizon, as users reporting, since the latest 02.03.00.04 firmware update for the router some weeks ago, many different printers can't connect with SON enabled, while could connect with SON enabled for months prior to this router update.

I would also make sure that there is no Mac Filtering enabled for your router when SON enabled, I could see some indications online that it adds Mac Filtering support which was removed a while back.
