HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
macOS 12.0 Monterey

In order to print from my iPad or phone, I have to leave my home Wi-Fi network and switch to a dedicated wi-if which takes me offline and I lose what I was trying to print.

@ljgm1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To resolve the issue of having to switch networks to print from your iPad or phone using the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw, there are several steps you can take to streamline the process:

Ensure Printer Connectivity: Make sure that your HP printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPad or phone. If the printer is on a different network, it may require you to switch networks for printing.

Utilize HP Smart App: Download and install the HP Smart app on your mobile device from the App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android. This app can help manage printer settings and facilitate printing over the same Wi-Fi network without having to switch networks.

Enable Wi-Fi Direct: If your printer supports Wi-Fi Direct, you can print directly from your mobile device to the printer without switching networks. You can enable Wi-Fi Direct through the printer settings panel.

Use AirPrint for iOS Devices: For iOS devices like your iPad, ensure that AirPrint is enabled. AirPrint is Apple's printing technology that allows you to print wirelessly from your Apple devices to compatible printers without additional software.

Check Router Configuration: Verify your router settings to ensure there are no restrictions or configurations causing connectivity issues. Specifically, make sure your printer and devices are on the same frequency band (either 2.4GHz or 5GHz).

Firmware Update: Check to see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer that may resolve connectivity issues. You can update the firmware through the HP Smart app or the printer's settings menu.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
