Hi @Cygnus65,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that your HP ENVY Photo 7900 works normally when printing from your phone, but your Dell laptop running Windows 11 cannot connect to the printer. Since the printer can communicate with your phone over the same Wi-Fi network, this points more toward the Windows printer connection or software setup than a printer hardware issue.

Reconnect the printer in Windows.

  1. On the printer, print a Wireless Network Test Report and confirm that the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. On the Dell laptop, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. If the ENVY Photo 7900 is already listed, select it and choose Remove. This clears the existing Windows printer connection.
  4. Restart the laptop.
  5. Open the current HP app and select Add Printer.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the ENVY Photo 7900 again.

If the printer is found but you still receive the 8549A8 error, please provide the exact wording of the error or a screenshot of the message. That will help determine whether the problem is with printer discovery, the Windows print system, or the HP app.

Since the printer is already printing successfully from your phone, I would not change the router settings yet. Let's first establish a fresh connection between Windows 11 and the printer.

Hi!

Thanks for the reply!

I did the wireless Network test and everything is good, printer connected.

And i fallowed your instructions for Windows even reinstall the HP app and driver but same result….

and the error message doesn’t say much just printer error and when I look in the printer and scanner section of Windows the printer status is in error.

Thanks.

Hi @Cygnus65,

Thank you for the update. Since the ENVY Photo 7900 is connected to Wi-Fi, the Wireless Network Test passes, and printing works from your phone, while Windows 11 shows the printer as “Error” even after reinstalling the HP app and driver, we can rule out a basic Wi-Fi connection problem.

Let's check the Windows print system next.

Check the Windows Print Spooler

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler.
  3. Confirm that its status is Running and Startup type is Automatic.
  4. Right-click Print Spooler > Restart.
  5. Restart the laptop and check the printer again under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

Check the printer queue

  • Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > ENVY Photo 7900.
  • Select Open print queue.
  • Make sure there are no stuck or pending documents.
  • If there are, cancel them and try a new test print.

If Windows still shows the printer as Error, please open Printer properties and check the Ports tab. Let me know which port is selected (for example, a Standard TCP/IP port, WSD port, or HP IPP port).

That information will help determine whether Windows is failing to communicate with the printer even though the printer itself is successfully connected to the network.
