Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

This printer has the absolute worst connectivity.  The Geek squad "fixed" three times but by the next day (once, the same day) the printer was again offline and not working.

Now, the only way it will work, at the beginning of each print session, I need to manually turn off the wifi, then turn it back on. I've had so many printers (even an HP) that never had any issues staying connected and could print 24-7.

I have no idea how/if the scanner works. I would have returned this product but I still have , maybe 11 more months of free ink.

Hi @Chloe-Dog,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I can hear how exhausting this has been, especially after multiple service visits and still having to toggle WiFi just to print. When a printer won’t stay connected and you have to reset it every session, that’s frustrating and disruptive. The good news is this pattern usually points to a specific network setting that we can correct.

Before we proceed, please confirm:

What exact printer model are you using?

Is your router dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz combined under one network name)?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Assign a Manual IP Address (Most Common Fix)

  • Printers that reconnect only after WiFi cycling often lose their IP address.
  • Print a Network Configuration page from the printer.
  • Note the current IP address.
  • On a computer browser, type that IP address into the address bar.
  • Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server.
  • Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration.
  • Select Manual IP.
  • Enter an IP address outside your router’s automatic range (for example, if router range is 192.168.1.2–192.168.1.100, choose 192.168.1.150).
  • Save settings and restart the printer.
  • This prevents the printer from “dropping” off the network.

Step 2: Separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Bands

  • Log into your router settings.
  • If both bands share the same WiFi name, create separate names (for example Home_2G and Home_5G).
  • Connect the printer only to the 2.4 GHz network.
  • Connect your devices to the same 2.4 GHz network for setup.
  • Many HP printers are more stable on 2.4 GHz only.

Step 3: Disable Router Features That Block Discovery

  • In your router settings, check for:
  • AP Isolation (disable it).
  • Client Isolation (disable it).
  • Smart Connect (disable it temporarily).
  • Band Steering (disable temporarily).
  • Guest Network (do not use for printer).
  • These features can cause the printer to appear offline even when connected.

Step 4: Turn Off IPv6 on the Printer

  • Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server.
  • Go to Network Settings.
  • Disable IPv6.
  • Save changes.
  • Restart the printer.
  • This can stabilize communication in certain home networks.

I hope this helps.
