Hi @Headspace

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7730 was working fine for the past three years but now isn't connecting to your laptop, there could be several reasons behind this issue. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the connection problem:

1. Check the Network Connection

  • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network > Print Network Configuration Report.
  • This report will show whether the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network and give you its IP address.

2. Restart Your Printer and Laptop

  • Restart both devices: Power off both your printer and laptop. Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn both back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix connectivity issues.

3. Check Printer’s Wireless Settings

  • If the wireless light is not solid (or blinking), you may need to reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi.

4. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi (if needed)

  1. On the printer, go to the Wireless icon and select Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Choose your network and enter the Wi-Fi password.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer (or similar).
  • Alternatively, you can check for updates using HP Smart on your laptop.

6. Reinstall Printer on Your Laptop

  • Remove the printer and reinstall it on your laptop:
    • Windows: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Remove device. Then, click Add a printer or scanner and follow the instructions to add the printer back.
    • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the minus sign to remove it. Then, click the plus sign to add the printer again.

7. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the tool from HP's official site.
  • The tool will scan for common connectivity issues and attempt to fix them automatically.

8. Check Firewall and Security Software

  • Disable firewall or security software temporarily: Sometimes, security software or firewalls can block printer connections. Temporarily disable them and check if the connection works. If this fixes the problem, add an exception for your printer in the firewall settings.

9. Assign a Static IP to the Printer (Optional)

  • You can assign a static IP from the printer’s network settings.
  • Then, manually add the printer using that IP address in the printer settings on your laptop.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
