HP ENVY 7645 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I keep getting an error message stating DNS/Gateway problem. The printer cannot connect to the server. Contact your administrator or the person who setup the printer. I can’t directly contact Hp for assistance and keep running into dead ends trying to troubleshoot.

Hi @Rikki15,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the DNS/Gateway problem you're encountering with your HP ENVY 7645 e-All-in-One Printer indicates that the printer is having trouble connecting to your network or the internet. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • Verify that the Wi-Fi network is working correctly and that other devices can connect to the internet.

Restart Devices:

  • Power off your printer, router, and computer.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then power them back on. This can help reset network connections.

Check DNS Settings:

  • Make sure your printer is set to obtain an IP address automatically. This is usually the default setting, but it's worth verifying.
  • On your printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > TCP/IP and check if it's set to Automatic for both IP Address and DNS.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Firmware updates can fix connectivity issues. You might need to download the update from HP's website and follow the instructions provided.

Verify Network Settings:

  • On your printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings and ensure that it’s connected to your network.
  • You can also print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to check the current network settings.

Check Router Settings:

  • Ensure that your router is not blocking the printer’s IP address. You might need to check your router’s settings to see if there are any restrictions or filters in place.

Reconfigure Wireless Connection:

  • Try removing the printer from your network settings and then reconnecting it. This might involve setting up the wireless connection again from scratch.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
